a) I don't think they are usable.
b) HL is a wankly produced hybrid of Q1 / QW / Q2, though only 30% (iirc) of the code is based on these engines (pfft) - Not sure how much of each is used (at a guess, very little QW, or it'd have decent netcode)

Thats true, most of these half life only players have never known netcode as it should be:p The first incarnation of the hl net code was pure crud, but it wasn't so bad as you could predict the lag. The new (cough) code is just a random peice of shite imho, you never seem to know what it's going to do? Iv'e shot through people like they ain't even there, shot people in the leg/body and got head shots. It completely nukes the idea of hit boxes, the random hit thing just plants a shot anywhere it feels like:(

aim at someone's head, hit someone's head.
q2 has the most solid netcode of any game imo
but think about it in HL you don't have to 'lead' hitscan weapons like you do in q2/q3. Just point and shoot. Fantastic.

and the % tokens are specific to the 3wave CTF and Battleground mods (among others) so no they won't work in HL.

Even if they did each map would then need a loc file or location entities to give proper feedback. Then again CS does have a radar.

You didn't have to lead with hitscan weps in quake if you had a connection, or a highly tuned modem. I can tell you now, if somebody is running side on in a tfc/cs game you have to lead your aim or you get nothing, and thats on a cable connection.

Leading players in CS? Maybe that's where you've been going wrong all this time kurt :)

and q2 you still had to lead someone running left to right past you on the very best modem connection. I have pinged around 90ms with a modem in q2, and you still have to lead with that.

although a lot of this is to do with the pause after you press fire and the weapon firing, which was always slow in q2.

Aye but in quake 2 i could knock down 50 frags in 3 mins on minos with a rail gun with no lead shots. Unless it was sunday night and the server was borked, in which case it was rocket time, and the game lasted a few minutes longer. Imho there's something seriously wrong with this game, like i say i whack people on the hunted map with a sniper rifel in the leg/mid section and i get head shots, i see the shot go in, it goes nowhere near the head. It still doesn't stop me from clearing up, but it's just anoying when somebody on a sub 100 ping comes flying my way and my shot goes straight through them half the time like they ain't there. Call it what you want, but im telling the truth:)

Get that ping down, and you'll find if you aim for the head, you hit the head:D

So's mine - funny, if I aim about head-height and spray, I get head shots. If I snipe for the head, ditto. Must be me then. My l337 skillz:D

Netcode is crap with prediction on. Turn it off and it's not too bad. Not QW but OK :)

go play on jolt with no prediction
stand right next to someone, empty an ENTIRE clip into them, they empty an ENTIRE clip into you, you both switch to pistols, both shoot out two more clips, both of you still have 100 health... I've seen this happen on jolt.

The CS netcode works, and works great. It takes up such a small amount of bandwidth. Whereas before Beta6.5 you could get up to 15k/sec in/out, now it's more like 4k/sec in/out. Some drawbacks like corrupted demos now, but it's great. 30,000 regular players can't be unhappy.
