PCGamer did a spread about HL2 this month. They talked about it being released very soon then displayed all the same old same old screenies we've seen a thousand times before.

Given it was supposed to be completed last September me thinks this is pre-launch hype to get people buzzing about it again.

All good fun eh :D..

The site director of Planet Half-Life has posted a rather interesting read on why he hates Valve so much these days, I'm not sure how long it will be there though I'm sure Valve will be having a few words with gamespy about it :)

What a spoilt geek weenie.

He hates Valve because their game slipped. He clearly hates them on a very deep, personal level: and all for doing their job. Games companies spout bullshit for lots of reasons: and most of the time it is for very, very good reasons.

One thing he also needs to realise is games companies have no loyalty or commitment to community websites and the likes, it's completely optional. The fact they even communicate with them is ten times more than any other company do: most ignore everything and do nothing for the communitites.

I'd have thought with all his net experience he would be a little less blind to what goes on in the scene as a whole, as opposed to living in his own little HL fantasy community/world.

What a twunt. He seems to forget the countless hours of fun hes had from HL1, for about 30 sheets. Then he complains that Valve are silly for not releasing a game on time, a game that nobody has yet paid for. Valve owe their existence not to the fans and supporters of HL1, but their skill in creating such a good game.

I'd piss my sides if Valve said "You know what? Fuck it. Shove your game up your arse, we're off to The Bahamas. HL2 is never coming out."

Report on Bluesnews now suggests a late summer release and also has an apology from Gabe Newel about the September fiasco. I never thought the leak was the reason for the delay. That just didnt make sense.

Valve are going to have problems if they don't release it relatively soonish.

More recently Far Cry has demonstrated that there are "up and comers" out there who have got their own engines which are on par with Valves (at least based on the E3 demos). If they don't draw a line under it sometime they're going to end up in a perpetual cycle of redeveloping their existing code.

I would've thought the best thing Valve could do would be to plough all their resources into making sure the single player experience (and to a lesser extent the multiplayer one) is as content rich and engaging. I'd much rather see them come out with a revolutionary game in terms of single player mechanics, than continue to tweak the graphics engine - which if E3 is anything to go by is already mind blowing.

I'll buy it whenever it comes out, as I'm sure will most people.

Do you actually work in the games industry or are you just a Valve fanboy?

Put yourself in his shoes. The success of PHL depends entirely on the exclusivity (and accuracy) of information given to it by Valve. News sites are called news sites because they typically break the news, they don't parrot other sites. Well, the successful ones don't anyway. So faced with a situation where you know not only you, but the community which you serve, the community which ultimately ensures the viability of your site, is being lied to.. would you not be the least bit frustrated?

I think given his circumstances he was very constructive. He could've gone off at a tangent and started calling people names, picking on specific people, etc - but he didn't. Unless you've been in your shoes I don't think you can really comment.

PS. KCs fake boobs are ugleh :(
