I hate being ill because i go on ebay to cheer myself up, since my last post I have now acquired one walking with dinosaurs dvd one star trek (classic btw) t shirt and one pair of leather trousers Oo not bad going rofl

Anyway I thought I should probably use my powers for good instead of evil, and was thinking about what to get B2 for a present for a future occasion, he really likes snapping pictures of stuff when he's out and about so he can show me later and his mobile is up the creek so I thought I might splash out and get him a new camera phone...

then i realised that I could actually be quite selfish and help myself here too by getting him a phone with sat nav (which would mean he would no longer rely upon my less than perfect navigational skillz and end up shouting at me when we get lost... actually I mean he could use a magic 8 ball and it would give him better directions that I do...)

Anyway I digress, so bearing in mind I am a frigging student (and not one of these rich ones who has parents to pay for stuff like food and shelter for them) and do not have much money, I was hoping that someone here could do a sensible, practical recommendation for a cameraphone (sat nav would be awesome but if that makes it too expensive then bugger it) and the camera doesn't have to be top quality either I mean ours atm are like 0.1 mpxl so as long as its better than that, my budget is like £150 maximum and I do mean maximum lol, if you can find what I'm after for less then great stuff and remember satnav would be the icing on the cake, it doesn't have to have it if its going to make it too expensive (I know nothing about these things, s'why I'm asking you guys) Oh and needs to be pay as you go pls kk thx

t'would be grand if ye could help!

Yaar!!

ooh and don't forget I can get NUS student discount so if you know of somewhere that does them even better!

Nokia N73 with an external sat nav aid perhaps?

It's the most realistic option you have on such a tight budget.

hmm the thing is it wouldn't need to be all the bells and whistles, don't they do like a pic'n'mix phone where you can say "I want this this and this and all the other stuff can go hang", I mean its like my phone i use it as an alarm clock, occasionally i make a phone call (put a tenner on june 08 and still had about £3 left this june) the crappy camera is OK but I could do without it.

the phone I'm after preferably has: phoning capabilities, an OK-good camera, satnav, pay as you go.

that's all it needs, and if not satnav on any PAYG (tbh I can't find a payg phone with satnav at all) then just the phone and goodish camera...and if not i'll get him a food processor.

AFAIK Ez the only good built-in sat nav is on the more expensive phone models. Some even charge you to use the sat nav yearly; something absurd like 30 quid a year.

A Nokia N73 (and probably other phones but don't take my word for it) can run through a sat nav. aid through bluetooth. I'm pretty sure their small and discrete enough to fit in your pocket etc. and the aid will not set you back more than 40-50 quid max.

You MAY be able to snap both up for 150 provided you get the phone 2nd hand.

edit - read the 'most helpful review' - he explains it so much better: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nokia-Music-Black-Mobile-Unlocked/dp/B001A2SU36/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1248457120&sr=8-2

lol thanks but I think it'll be a £50 phone and a road map, I (stupidly) didn't realise satnav was something you had to subscribe to :

I've had a N73 & N95

cant recomend it, the softwere simply isnt road ready, seems to me like they were in a rush to get the N series out on the market, "aka Symbian" your far better off "if you can get it" buying a 6500 Slide with a double led blitz, real brushed steel finish, unlike the N series wich basicly offers shine plastic steel look'a'like 3.2mpx "same as N73"
and it's a slide as opposed to the N73 wich is a Big, Fat Lump o' rock.

symbian f.exp dosent know how to do smilies "just one example
the 6500 slide uses Series 40 "a far better system imo"

and ofc picz for you "btw donno about british prices but in Dk at least it's cheap new than the N73, but still imo a faaaar better phone

Ez, you can buy my 6 month old (in perfect condition) LG Renoir kc910 for £130 if you want. No sat nav, but a great 8mp camera.

I'm struggling to think of a satnav ready phone for that price, a phone running symbian with a gps receiver built in would let you install an acquired copy of tomtom. Probably your best bet.

Check out a nokia 6210 Navigator, 3.2mp camera sat nav built in. I have a Vodafone one knocking about somewhere and its a OK phone imo it takes ok pics not high end camera phone quality but good. I installed Garmin on it and its good for turn by turn sat nav as well.

Remember that it doesn't matter kind of a camera it has outside; if it's below 5, it's worse then over 5.

Everything else is really irrelevant.

The main thing is data transfer.

Check what kind of materials you need to transfer the pictures to the PC etc.

Newer phones have a datacable transfer and a simple switch to turn the phone into a mass storage. That would be the best bet.
