I'm going to Gran Canaria in 2 days, for a week. Once I get back I'm definately going to start getting in shape. :D

Basically, I've never done a seconds exercise in my entire life.
I'm 6 foot 2, 10.5 stone. Its amazing I'm not obese, you won't believe the shite I eat. at least 5 cans of fizzy drink a day, chocolate, crisps.
I also don't eat vegetables or fruit. I had a kebab and chips for lunch 5 days a week for an entire year (kebab shop near my school) I haven't drank a glass of milk for about 5 years and my breakfast is usually something from Ms Patels.

So, I need any advice on sorting my shit out. I've got money for the gym and stuff. Are those milkshake thingys any good? I just want to tone my body, I look like such a twat atm with my lanky figure, its quite embaressing. I'm prepared to completely change my diet too.
Some of you studs must go to the gym and that, so help meeeee! ;)

Go to the gym
Arrange for a personal trainer to show you around
Get them to make an excercise regime for you.
Follow it

edit: And yes I would change your eating habits. Cos you may not be putting on weight but its not doing your body any good.

If you carry on like that everyday there is a high prob you will start getting fat in your 30's and increase your chances of heart disease considerably...

Once in a while its great to eat like that though

What dys said basically. You'll find it beneficial once you start exercising to cut all those fizzy drinks and chocolate out, and start eating meat, veg, and some fruit.

If you're into building muscle mass, it will take about 2 months (3 times a week) for your body to start changing noticeably.

Having just got the "Free Gym" ("Gime? What's a Gime?") company perk I've just managed to string together two visits within about a week. Planning to go twice a week.

The point about personal trainer is very true. Some can be a little intimidating (they look like they've been to the gym, they have confidence, you know what I mean) but the guy that took me round was a good bloke and sorted me out with a routine (about an hour-hour+half twice a week). You tell 'em what you want and what you know and they sort you out.

As is said: Stick to it. Best way is to find a friend to go with. I'm lucky since we all get the same perk at work (bar the fight to get one of 20 passes at reception every morning) there's no shortage of people to go with. If you don't find someone, it'll be much much harder to stick to it.

Also worth considering (since you're paying) would be getting a monthly subscription rather than paying individually, since that might act as some incentive to keep on going when you know that you've spent the money.

Good luck though matey.

The pose is mildly amusing, but I'd hope you were prepared for that ;)
As far as I'm concered it's fine, though I hope you remember just how many photoshop-heads there are on this messageboard.

Haha, I took it for a laugh tbh, also so I could look at it in a years time and see how I've changed. Already had a mate draw an entire nazi SS uniform on it complete with Hitler moustache, It was quite detailed, the guy obviously had talent!

heh, you inspire me Mobius :)

two years ago I dinged 100kg and started to go to the gym 3 times a week. I had a trainer dream up a cardio (running, rowing, biking, langlauf) workout with light weights thrown in and did that for six months, then switched to a more weight intensive workout with just 45 minutes of running for cardio stuff.
Within the 6 month period I had lost over 15 kilos, felt great, had great confidence and was generally pretty pleased with myself.
I did nothing to change my diet so I still drank lots of beer and softdrinks, ate the occasional bag of crisps.

me being a lazy bast, I quit 4 months later. now, a year later, the 15k's are back and I'm not pleased heh.

imo if you start a cardio heavy training regime you're going to turn into a marathon runner. you'll be able to bike, run, swim and do general endurance stuff pretty well. if you have the mind-set and are reasonably quick you may want to consider a martial art. there are some that are simply beautiful to do, and there is nothing that gets you in shape better tbh.

if you start a weight biased regime and you want to go the route of getting big, then you're going to have to commit to a diet and a serious workout. your trainer will be able to advise. if you just do the weights and some light running you will get a bit more buffed, but don't expect to pack muscles on unless you train well and eat better. I'd personally advise going to the gym and doing another "extra" thing, as I found the gym to be terminally dull (with the exception of running while the aerobics/dance ladies were doing their thing).
My other thing was mountain biking. it rocks to do :)

I really have to go to the gym again.

i'm 6'2" and i'm going on 14 stone :S That said, past few weeks i've been going to the gym (weights) and then playing a few rounds of squash. and i go diving every week which requires lugging around heavy equipment. But it's not like i eat loads of shit.

But jeebus. I'd kill to be 10.5 stone. You could house babies in the flab i've got.

Going to the Gym is a load of old bollox. You want to get fit look good and be hard as Nails get down to kick boxing and Kung Fu. Excellent Cardio Work out plus it tones all your muscles in proporion so you dont have a have a rent-a-chest and legs like that fella of the Mr Muscle advert. You dont pile the pounds back on as soon as you stop. Gives you a real sense of confidence as well so if you know there is a bit of bother in the boozer you can look after yourself. Finally it's a great way to relax as well because it teaches you correct breathing techniques.

:D

In my “younger” days I could eat and drink everything I wanted without gaining weight.
All that changed when I turned 25. Gained 8 kg in a year.
Started going to the gym and now I’m back to my old weight and have gained a bit of muscle mass so obviously I lost more than 8kg of body fat.

In your case there is not much fat to burn so you will prob gain a few kg fast :)

I would suggest you ask the trainer for a strength building program first and repeat it a few times while increasing the weights.
After 6 months to a year you can start with a muscle building program.

You will start feeling strong an confident in no-time.

And most girls like a bit of muscle ;)

You don't need to go to the gym and waste your money on fitness, you can do it all for free. Just needs a bit of forethought. A little more hassle maybe, but worth saving the money the gym will leech of you.

BTW I'm 6 foot as well, I do shit all exercise too but I only weigh 8 1/2-9 1/2 stone. OWNED, I AM THE SKINNEEEEEEEEEEE.

Definitely sort out your breakfast. I'd recommend a steaming bowl of porridge oats; very tasty and most bodybuilders eat something similar.

Thanks for the help guys. I set my alarm for 5am this morning and hauled my lazy ass out of bed and went jogging for an hour. It really made me realize how unfit I was. I never had a drink or owt to eat before leaving though, and I'd only slept 2.5 hours. I ran a fair bit to be honest, was knackered by the end of it though.
I'm off to Gran Canaria for a week tomorrow (gonna work on my tannage!) so I'll get plenty of exercise there (swimming, running up and down the beach :))
I ate some weird rabbit rood type thing for breakfast, it had Ian Bothams face on the front and tasted like nature. :(

Theres still loads of stuff I need to know though (I'm really dense when it comes to this sort of stuff :p)

How much water should you be drinking a day? And Milk? What sort of meals are good for you? Is jogging actually useful? I'm looking to increase my overall health (running out of breath going upstairs obviously means somethings wrong with me) as well as gain a bit of weight in muscle. Is there stuff I can do around the house as well? I've actually got some gym apparatus in my Garage.

I've got one of these (Mines a bit crapper) http://www.gymworld.co.uk/prodpage.asp?ProdID=132

As well as a big fat boxing bag thingy, some weights, etc.

Cheers. :D

Mobius, you are ten years yonger than me and I know exactly where you are coming from. I to have a terrible diet and never used to put on any weight. I was 6' 1" and never deviated from 8 1/2 stone.

Trust me, this changes. Get to the gym and change your diet now. I am currently 26, 12 stone and sporting a very nice belly ;)

It's to late for me, but it's not to late for you ;)

Rubbish, it's only too late when you're dead. Stop making excuses and start pumping some iron!
