Was anyone else in Nottingham at the gig last night?
I had heard bad things about them recently and wasn't looking forward to it, but they rocked imo.
Last half hour was great.

Ppl say they sucked at Roskilde. The reasons were that Axl was fat and was changing clothes between the songs (and rock stars don't do that). And when Axl was changing there was some "strange" music between the songs.
Wtf is up with that. I loved the concert. It sounded like old Guns N' Roses and tbh that’s what matters for me. Axl was a "bit" larger, but was all over the stage like the old days.
Axl might be squeezing the lemon, but he STILL rocks imo.

Saw them (err.. Axl and his backing band, despite them touring under the name, this isn't Guns N Roses) in Sheffield. Amazingly they arrived no stage pretty much on time :) Played from 9.30 till 12.

Was a very good gig except for the fact that he got his 3 guitarists and keyboard player to all play solos whilst he went for break. They only played 1 new song with the rest of the set coming from Appetite For Destruction with a few Use Your Illusion tracks thrown in.

As for being a sold out tour, the venue was 75% full.

I fell asleep (literally) in front of Orange stage at Roskilde a "few" years back when Slash's Snakepit was playing.
Well guess the "home made cigarettes" and beers had a small part of it ;)

I used to be a massive GnR fan in the early 90s. I saw them live at Wembley. Went with my gf at the time.

My favourite GnR tracks are:

Coma
Civil War
You Could be Mine
Patience
Garden of Eden
...and every track on Appetite for Destruction.

Never bothered buying any of their stuff after the Use Your Illusion albums. They went a bit off the wall after that - what with people leaving, arguments, and a general decline in their popularity and fan base.

I then discovered Metallica, and then Sepultura. Pantera, Xentrix, Skid Row, Motorhead, etc etc

These days, although I still enjoy listening to all that stuff, my tastes are hugely eclectic and more rounded.

Rock on !

Freddy Mercury *pissed* all over Axl Rose and spat out the bits as far as showmanship and stage presence was concerned. Totally pwnd him. Such a shame he's no longer with us.

RIP FM.

QFT

Freedie , still the fucking man when it comes to owning a stage. Watch Queen's "Live At Wembley '86" DVD for a masterclass in showmanship (and also being a vastly better singer than Axl Pose).

Aye

IMO, there's never been a better showman than the great Freddy Mercury.

Sure, there's been some fantastic show people, like James Brown, Little Richard, Michael Jackson, Madonna, and so on, but I think every one of them will gladly give their seat up for Freddy.

Rest in Peace, Freddy m8. The world still misses you

How can you all ignore

- I used to love her (but I had to kill her)
- Mr Brownstone
- Welcome to the jungle

I am actually a bigger fan of GnR now (and then I mean up untill Use your Illusion 1+2) than I was at the time their records came out. I kinda liked them then as well, but I think it's even better now. Axl sings really cool, and damn he's hard to copy, and Slash rocks as a solo guitarist. Some classic moments they created on record.

Didn't go to their concert in Oslo tho, so I wouldn't know about them now.

As for the slightly off-topic discussion on stage prescence and showmanship, Freddy Mercury sure was one of the all-time entertainers, along with (IMO) Frank Sinatra (can you be cooler on stage?), Bruce Dickinson (in his best years 82-86) and Robbie Williams (the only guy post year 2000 that is even remotely close to being an entertainer/showman)..

Aye Robbie Williams is a grreat showman

Personally, I wouldn't put the Iron Maiden lead singer in the same category as Frank Sinatra ! But hey, each 2 their own opinion :)
