Ok so i've not been on for a while as I've been a bit busy with pookie (my beloved baby) who has decided to come down with pneumonia.

wednesday morning i opened the hutch to let her out in the house for the day and she sounded like a very tiny darth vader, first thought "aw fuck!" this was exactly how sprockett sounded when she died, anyway we got pooks straight to the vets and twas the same vet as before which is a good thing as she nailed the problem and gave us some meds and syringes to (haha) try and give pooks her meds orally with (oh man you should see the face she pulls, like a very unamused chicken) and told us to take all the hay out of her hutch and put dust free shreded paper in instead.

anyhoo it seemed to do the trick but pooks was still really down, thursday and friday are the days when i work all day so i didnt want her to get lonely and stuck the radio in the lounge on classic fm, anyway we get home on thursday (tbh im expecting the worst) and shes singing at me (weetweeeetweeeeetweeet) she never speaks to me any more so this was a real nice surprise! I've been leaving the radio on soft at night and whenever I'm out and it really seems to have perked her up.

She's even started eating a little now too, yesterday she'd only eat a little lettice if i hand fed her and today she's eating a bit on her own.

we were planning to get her a little companion GP in a few weeks but that looked as if it would not be possible with her being ill, but now it looks as if thats on the cards again (wayhay!) so if your GP is looking depressed (tbh thats exactly how she was looking, really pissed off and mopey) try playing some classical music for them (not too loud though).

anyhoo I shall let you know how things turn out, we've got to take her back to the vets for a follow up tomorrow morning, and i suspect we will probably take her just before we go to introduce her to a new freind to make sure she's fit enough.

It's my worst nightmare to open the hutch in the morning and find pookie ill (or worse) so I'm really pleased she's picked up.

I'm so sorry your wee one is ill! Its very frightening :( Glad she's perking up and I'll be sending "healing vibes"

One of my bunnies (not one of my lions) suddenly keeled over a few weeks back and died in my arms. We couldn't do anything for him :( Josie my sister lost one of her rats on thursday night and another one is terminally ill, the vet said that her kidneys are shutting down :( All a bit fraught with our cuddlies. Fortunately snuggling Wesley makes it aaalll better.

awww, glad your using the magic of classical music to heal Pookie.
But the first image in my head when you said

all I could imagine was a doctor in a white-coat looking depressed in some massive human sized run/hutch thingy and that you introduced another one into it to keep him/her company by discussing all things medical and that you turn up at local doctors with massive speaker systems playing classical music :p

Guinea pigs are in no way as smart as rats. Our piggies are insanely stoopid, and one of the new baby rats is so smart its beyond adorable :)

It is all traumatic and horrible when one of my (or sisters') pets go to The Bridge. I wouldn't change them for the world. Except if I could make them live forever of course :)

I just got a mental image of a chav running the wheel, funny stuff (yes i know thats hamsters, but still!)

this also becons the question,
does this then also qualify all chavs as Guinea pigs ?
you know, deep down, it makes perfect sence....

but then you can say all ducks are birds, but not all birds are ducks. (just an example)
therefore all guinea pigs are chavs, not all chavs are guinea pigs. although they have the intelligence of one!

Haha :) Almost twins :)

In rat-news: Georgina's feeling a lot better! We know she'll sometime lose "the fight" but now Josie believes she won't need to be put to sleep to spare her suffering.

In rabbit news: Bonnie and Sam don't like each other :p

lol aww maybe its time for a little lady and the tramp moment?

play some soft music, sit them on an over turned crate and serve them an extra long squiggly bit of carrot, it's A'more!

or it might turn in to rabbit fight club :(

this girl i work with had a pet rat and i can't recall what happened but i think it broke its rib anyhoo she was saying how it had to be put in to a full body cast (like a loo roll tube) and this pushed up its neck fur and it looked like a little lion...aswell as this it gave it trouble walking so had to walk on tippy toes lol

I'll try and get some pictures of my pigs if I get to stick them on the lawn tomorrow (if the weather is alright lol).

I reckon Bernie is twice the size of your pooky :p

aye boars are generally bigger, my first GP was a boar and he was a whopper.

some other news, the vet gave us this packet of dry stuff to mix with water and give pooks some extra vitimins and minerals called recovery by supreme pet foods and she loves it! i couldn't believe it i was thinking uh oh here comes another trial, after giving her her medicene (which she doesnt like) i gotta give her this, and she was lapping it up!

its made for all small herbivores and you can either get it from the vet or go to the website:

we have a vitiman suppliment that you just add to the normal food, theres no way of telling whether they get enough of it or not (as we have 3 in one cage - all girls, two sisters 1 mum) and the male in his own is just far to fussy with the grain mix we give him.

Mind you, they get given fresh grass to eat everyday and whatever veg we are about to throw out.
