I don't like the idea of it seeming to me as if everything is handed to you on a silver platter, although most leveling grinds are tedious, I still think you should need to put in work to get better in a game.

Like the ones PL'ing their chars to lvl 50 in 24 hours of /play time ?

That's really hard work indeed...

As opposed to actually playing a game for fun instead of spending 2 years leveling/farming/equipping your character? Too many people forget that games are meant to be FUN, leveling 5 characters to 50 in DAoC was not fun in any way, shape, or form :)

Nail on the head although I think RvR is fun at times it could be f**cking awesome if the engine was done right and balanced.

Waaaay back in the distant past, I can remember taking my Spiritmaster solo into Hadrians Wall and Forest Sauvage. Those were the days when RvR was fun, if you stayed out of Emain. Ahhhh... good memories. I can even remember running into Grandpa cho's staff a few times too!

It's not the engine that really needs fixing.. it's the lack of space to go out and do things on your own, you need a group or a zerg to survive. The best fun I ever had was running around the frontiers solo, not knowing what was around the next corner.

True leveling is a pain, but as you yung-uns will soon find out, nothing in life is worth having unless you work for it.

A first this may seem strange, but it's soooo true, anything in life that is easy is worthless.

It's how our brains are wired, if someone gave you a brand new Ferrari every Birthday, you would soon bore of the car and no-one would give you any respect for owning it, they'd just call you a spoilt brat.

I kind of agree with Sharma in that you should put some effort into a game to get better/different. One of the things I hate about DAoC RvR (Midgard especially) is the way its so stagnent, you know what I mean - Savage, Savage, Savage, Healer, Healer, Shaman, Skald - lets go - we killed - we got killed - port - Savage, Savage, Savage, Healer... etc, etc.

That said, i'm no friend of the grind either. Somthing like the Trials would have been a better way to level imo. Sure it takes a while, but its more interesting than camping Spot-X for 5hrs pulling mobs into a 'box' and PBing them to death.

so dont stay at the same spot for that long then :) one of my fun times i have left in this game is to just walk out and WAY away from the "regular" xp spots and see if i can find something else... theres a SHITLOAD of really good spots that ppl never go to.. atm i have about 15 spots in midgard that i switch from.. and some of them are darn hard to get to... makes it more fun imo :) i might not lvl at cap speed but atleast i still have fun doing it :)

seems they started up really early, because i have been playing all night and this morning. i gotta say im pretty impressed the way the client handled. downloaded this tiny 69kb file then just fired up the game and i was up and running in a matter of seconds (the whole game can't be more than a few megabytes, they devs have got to be magicians or something). ran through a few missions with some people and they were pretty fun, then i soloed some to get a better feel for the game (i have a feeling it should have been the other way around).

the class system is based on a primary and secondary class you choose in character creation. for example, warrior as primary and necromancer as secondary. this will start you up with about 4 warrior skills and 2 necro skills (frenzy, power attack a life leech spell and so on). i also started with 2 general skills, a heal and a rez spell. oh and another thing, you start on level 15 and that's the max level for the E3 demo. the only thing you gain with xp are skill points which you use for new skills and such, afaik.

and the death penalty is heavenly light. you don't loose anything per se, you just gotta whack a few monsters to get back to full hp and attack power. if you die on a mission and none of your party members can rez you, you can spectate one of the other group members instead and if they successfully finish the mission you will get the reward as well.

ah well, off to play some more

i'm 'borr the black' in-game btw.
