Best thing to do is join groups, find friends and see for yourself what sort of people you get on well with and then try and get an invite to their guild. Better to joina guild where you know people than to join one cold and picked more or less at random.

In large Guilds like Lords of England (otherwise known as the borg :) ) you are likely to find a lot of experienced players who can help you out and such things to ease you in to the swing of the game etc.

Other general-purpose (i.e. not RvR or PvE specific etc.) where you are likely to find a good, friendly enivronment for a new player and who will give you a experience at later levels also are:

The Dragon Senate
Angels of Vengance
Disciples of Aldur
Guardians of Power
Griffon Knight
Phoenix Legion

and if you're in to a bit of Roleplaying:

Order of the Knights Templar

Dont forget Phoenix Legion

There a great guild, small (ish) and really friendly, active in the frontier and PvE areas.

All of the guilds get people having a go at them, especially as they get larger/better known, but I think it's fair to say that aren't any 'bad' guilds on pryd/alb so it depends on what you're looking for.

The high RP guilds (and that includes my own before certain large guilds think it's a dig ;)) may not necessarily be the best for you if you're not interested in RvR and the reverse is true of the smaller guilds.

As some of the posters have already said, group with a few people from guilds, get to know them, and then decide if their guild is what you want to be part of.

www.duskwave.com/daoc has lists of guilds and, if they have one, their websites. Always worth having a look over them...

According to my mate Halish who im sure some of the templars know, is in order of the knights templar, he finds them a really great guild, because they do all sorts of things, the roleplay is good and the way they explain guild chat is by calling it a "mind link" or something, they have weekly meeting and such are VERY organised, also to help lower level players, they are assinged Mentors i think my friends is Josephina or something smiliar and he does look upto her :)

if youre into roleplay join the templars, they are a really great guild :)
