Lords of England = Born on UO Europa server many years ago(and been goign on several games ever since).

The name is tied with the initial guild structure that I worked out.

Each person could be given a titel to go above their name and guild in UO. Each LOE person was initially LORD of (wherever they come from).

I was LORD of SHEFFIELD.

This structure however soon changed, the guild split into 5 major branches, with a LORD of ***** leading each section. Peopel could rise up in that persons section of the guild until they flourished enough to become a LORD in their own right, and start a new section of the guild...as LORD of (wherever they come from).

Teh standard LOE battlecry macro was 'fOR ENGLAND', although many variants from guildmembers are remembered to include the infamous 'We shafted Hitler' macro by Tyrion as we chased the german guilds around.

well, im not sure of the origins of the actual guild, as im afraid i wasnt one of the originals, but i can run you down a brief history of the Knights Templar as a whole...

In the 200 years they existed, they were possibly the most powerful and influential religious military force that sprung from the Crusades. Although pre-dating the Templar, "The Order of the Hospital" turned out to be their most fierce rival, but lacked the military backup.

They were formed following the first Crusade to protect the christian pilgrims travelling to the Holy Land, fighting alongside Richard I (Richard the Lion Hearted). Taking monastic vows, in effect, the first warrior monks. Over time, they earned the backing of the collective European monarchies.

It took roughly 170 years until the Templar had become powerful enough that they were able to defy all but the Papal throne (Pope Innocent II exempted the order from all authority bar the pope). With their reputation as fearsome warriors, and their steadily growing wealth, they managed to gather huge funds and skirted around the laws against the lending of moneys for interest (Usury), changing the methods with which it was lent, to the point where they were able to finance even Kings.

In 1307, Pope Clement V & the then King of France, Philippe IV the fair, bought the downfall of the order, and by 1314 "the Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon" ceased to exist.

The Templars were arrested on the grounds of heresy, since this was the only charge that would allow their funds & assets to be siezed, and they were subjected to torture as a result. The torture managed to force ridiculous confessions including;

- Worshipping of the Baphomet
- Sodomy
- Spitting on the Cross

Philippe encouraged all the christian leaders to do as he had done, and on March 19th, 1214, the last Grandmaster of the Knights Templar, Jacques de Molay was burned at the stake.

As he burned, De Molay is said to have uttered a curse upon Pope Clement & King Phillipe, that they would join him within the year. Clement died within the month. Phillipe died 7 months later.
