Hello. How are you?

'Ere, listen...

I've just installed CS for the first time ever and fancied playing the training mission to find out what it's all about.

I click on 'Training' and the game either quits to Windows or I get a console error telling me:

'map change failed: 'tr_1' not found on server.'

I assumed I had to download this 'tr_1' map but can't find it anywhere.

Can someone tell me what's happening (preferably in a condesending manner?)

Thank you.

What was it? the retail version, or the one you download when you have bought halflife?

If it is the downloadable one then it doesn't have a training mission because you get training with halflife (the training will only tell you how to move and reload etc, not much point tbh)

Retail Half-Life (patched to 1106) and downloaded CS.

Thanks for that, Custy. I guess I'd better go online then and try to learn in between getting my kneecaps shot off.

If anybody wants some 'sitting duck' target practice then just look out for me.

I'll be the one facing the wall trying to reload my torch.

You can download the training map, I did just out of interest, however I dont have a linky.

It teaches you about some of the different weapon types, rescuing hostages, planting/defusing the bomb.

Not anything you cannot find out by just reading the manual but it was vaguely interesting.

and hostages and the people who tell you what to do. Which is strange

For some resaon I cant remember /care to share I have the retail version. The only good thing it teaches u is proper use of the flash bangs and smokes. I suppose telling newbies how to rescue hossies is a good idea to, stops people shouting at them in open play.

Cant remeber if it teaches u plant/defuse it really should, its one of the biggest "shout at newbie reasons" out there.

um.. y would anyone need a training map on cs? anyone with half a brain cell could work out what to do within the space of one game, it's not exactly hard is it:eek:

The hard part is staying alive :)

You'd be suprised, ever had a newbie shooting the bomb/ hossies trying to plant/defuse/rescue?

Basic lack of reading the manual. People dont bother and having the training mission there lessen's these infuriating moments and gets newbies shouted at a lot less.

bw should have a "newbie" server where anyone who can't understand how to plant a bomb can play to keep everyone else's sanity intact:clap:

I'm a newbie to CS, a training mission would have been usefull as what I did was run about in LAN mode for a while till I worked it all out but this was really boring and I'm sure the training mission would have been more fun .

And I think 1 thing all newbie's should look for are ff off server's ;)

please go here.

no seriously, while there is no point in doing any training missions, please be aware of the following before going online.

1) how to plant/defuse
2) how to buy shit
3) team commands
4) not to shoot hostages.

if you know those you will be fine.

LOL an es server.

Now you are dreaming boy.

Have a look on gamespy, I'm sure you wil find one.

Never could stand es maps, either over complex or not complex enough.

I remember one where you could as ct's camp near the rescue point and kill the terrorists after they got there, thus dooming them to lose. Or was that all just a dream?

Man! This is pissing me off now...

Every time I try to connect to a server to play CS my screen gets caught in a continual refresh loop. Looks like it keeps trying to change the resolution back and forward about 5 times before crashing me out and dumping me back to Windows.

Drivers are up to date, I've changed the screen resolution manually to try and help out but will the bastard load?

My scrotum.

Sod it. I'm gonna play Operation Flashpoint...
