Why is it that stuff always goes pop just after the Guarantee period?
Nice Lamb casserole in the oven smells a bit "iffy",then the fuse blows, kaputzki!

Is this an oven? Describe the symptoms, it should be easy to fix.

Thermostat methinks, it got too hot. Theres power to the oven, the electronic timer is coming on, but the oven/grill/fan are dead. I'm guessing the thermostat broke and it's blown it's internal fuse as well as tripping the mains.
I've called the supplier to see if they can get someone out, they are only local. Good excuse for a takeaway tonight I guess :) Not had Fish 'n Chips for ages!

I wouldn't have thought that a thermostat would cause the fuse to blow.

Personally, I would check the following components:

Internal lamp - usually at the back under a cover, little pigmy bulb
Switch - This is what often goes

Also, does it have more than one element? Mine has 3 elements, I suggest you turn the main power off, and test each element in turn. If one element causes the fuse to trip (replace your mains fuse with a tripswitch it'll only cost a tenner), then its either the switch is broken in that position, or that element is short-circuit.

But its most likely the switch, thats the only part that moves apart from the fan. There may also be a little button that sits somewhere near the door, for detecting when the door is open to turn the lamp on - check that its not gunged up.

Hmm electrical oven knowledge eh?

Two of our rings are broken (I think the rings cracked and split, just need replacing), those I can probably deal with. The odd thing is with the 2 back rings. The smaller one is fine; turn cooker on at wall, turn knob, cook food. The big rear ring (steady) though is another story. If the cooker is turned on at the wall, that one ring begins to heat up - regardless of knob position (saints preserve us). It basically goes as hot as it can and stays there until you turn it off at the wall.

To me it sounds fairly likely it's a thermostat, but it's quite an old oven and I haven't a clue about them :)

Result!!
Turns out parts are covered for 5 years :)
Got to pay a manufacturers call out charge but cheaper than a new oven, and cheaper than getting some local dood out too.

Downside can't come out for 8 days, fortunately we have separate oven/hob so good excuse to do loads of Wok food, teh yum :)

Our hoovers always break a few weeks or so before the guarantee runs out, only had a couple of appliances go out after it, just luck i guess :p
