Grouping

So, had my first grouping experience today. Was in barrens today killing some mobs with 2 friends.

We were lvl 10, 11, 11 , the thing that bugged me was that we were getting REALY crappy xp. We were killing mobs between lvl 12 and 16 but xp seemd to stay almost the same all over, we were getting xp about half of what we would have gotten if we were killing mobs equal lvl solo.

I though a part of MMORPG were about social interaction, then why punish people for grouping?

Thats how i feel about it anyway.

Group to do quests... grouping for the sake of grouping isn't worth it sadly

If you want to get xp killing in a group you need to fight elites, there aren't any at your level range but soon you will have the option of going to instances like Ragefire Chasm or Wailing Caverns and so on. There are also some not instanced zones that have elites, I'm not familiar with horde zones but I'm thinking of places like Mo'Grosh Stronghold in Loch Modan, Dun Modr in Wetlands, Stromgarde in Arathi, Ruins of Alterac, etc.

Grouping non-elites isn't useless though, you can get a lot of the quests done quicker in a group. More quests = more exp.

yet another aawww i get crap group xp thread....
As blizz have already and countless times stated.....
you kill mobs faster as a grp than you do alone, thus the time taken to kill say 2 mobs in a grp is the same taken to kill 1 on your own, which is the same xp overall.
tbh i cant say that i've ever noticed my xp bar going more slowly in a grp than alone.
And if your an xp bar watching grinder than more fool you..... just play the game and you'll lvl fast enough without then need to grind!

If only there was twice as many mobs to kill in the area then, eh? ;)

Anyway, I find it more fun to run around in a duo rather than solo. Not to mention that the survivability increases quite a lot. (if one of you can heal that is ;))

Yep, grouping increases survivability alot, and as been stated you kill faster so a duo should be able to grind exp pretty fast if thats their cup of tea. Personaly i group for quests i cant do solo, and if its nice people i group with i tend to stay and help with other stuff as well - WoW is sooooo much *not* about getting maxlevel as fast as possible :) Its the ride there thats the fun part, at least until battlegrounds are implemented.

As stated already, once you reach instances at higher lvls with elite mobs, xp will be a lot better. Just group up to do quests together (did lvl 5-20 with a friend just doing quests, which was great fun, in US OB).. some quests even get done quicker as a group, although some other quests are much slower (kill task vs loot gathering etc).

Another time you will want to group is when you have to kill a named spawn. As I pointed out to the 15 people who were all whacking at one spawn on the first morning of open beta - only one of them will get credit, the rest were standing about wondering why the quest was taking such a long time.

I wouldnt even bother grouping till lvl15+ unless you need to kill a named, or are trying a red quest (youll find alot of people lfg in the lfg channel for harder quests).

just grab every quest you can and youll lvl in no time.

I saw atleast 30 ppl trying to all get credit for Hogger (lvl10ish quest) till we made a raid party and zerged him :eek7:

it was still pretty mad at hogger when i had a look at beta 3 last night :p

and the gnoll camps around was full of paladins (well, it seemed to me it was only paladins that were bashing the mobs i had was pulling for group :D )that just bashed anything that moved regardless of who was pulling it, complete chaos :)

once you get to higher lvls you will find that you NEED to group or you'll have a very very hard time completing some quests. Some quests you get from ratched and the barrens are actually quite hard to solo, and some you'll never ever get done alone like killing the centaur warlord just to name one. Hang in there, it will get better :)

thats because most of the people you meet are new and dont eaaly understand the dynamics, wait till people get use to it a bit more.

I've levelled up a couple of mages - one on the Alliance side, and one on the Horde side - and found the same thing. Mages seem to be undervalued.

If you want to make your soloing time more enjoyable pick up some professions and level them up during xp session breaks. The feeling of accomplishing something really makes up, for me anyway, for the lack of socialisation whilst levelling.

I also tend to spam the general chat channel ;)

You will find it improves when instance groups start to form - the mages form of cc is much needed when dealing with elites.

The large part of xp in wow is from completing quests.. most quests goes alot faster in a group, but yeah the xp on killing a mob is lower in a group..

I joined up with a priest on my rogue and i had four quests to do with the mobs they were killing .. they were just grinding the exp. I made a fair few friends that day when i showed them the light of the quest share button!! namely the kill 15 harvesters quest and then the kill 15 defias looters/highwaymen/knuckledusters/anything. as a group we blitzed through these quests gaining the same amount of exp for killing the mobs as we did for completing the quest. The point is .. if you take the time to find the quests you can double the exp!!! top stuff!!
