WT is not an illegal martial art. And infact Emin has engaged in fighting. And was part of a situation best described as a massive embarrassment to the WT community.

The best fighter ever might infact be some random Joe, who has done martial arts since the age of 14 and fought in bars and pubs every weekend for the last 20 years.

The most skilled sword fighter of feudal japan!

Killed a man wielding a real sword in his first ever duel at age 13 with nothing other than a wooden training sword (some say it was a wooden staff).

Won the title "best in japan" after winning a series of fights infront of the shogun.

You say the best idea is practice down the pub every weekend? This guy fought duels to the death for a living, and when he wasnt dueling, he was fighting in massive battles!

And to top it all off, he survived long enough to die of cancer, and managed to write a book on swordfighting in his spare time!

Forget all this martial arts bs! This guy fought in no-shit 'to the death' duels and took part in some of the biggest battles of his time. To do all that and live that long is quite an achivement imo.

Yep, I've read The Book of Five Rings Liked it more than the Art of War, mainly because what Musashi talks about is more relevent today, where as Tzu's book is 90% pointing out the obvious, with really only a couple of thought provoking lines in it.

I agree about the point about weapons in a way, and I knew I was being a bit cheeky to include a sword fighter, however from reading up on the sort of melee's that happened in most battles in feudal japan - basically massive fields full of 1 on 1's, the massed forces tactics of those times were very very basic - to have survived as long as he did, and to actually be called "the greatest swordsman in recorded history", I just couldnt resist

The only thing I'll say is that the title said greatest fighter implying melee combat only, while it also implied unarmed, I'm just thinking of melee instead, and while the greatest unarmed fighter is arguable, the greatest melee fighter, that is meaning best at fighting in close range with or without firearms, has to be musashi.

I did originally think about the russian sniper Zaitsev, but thats not really close range, and even if he was allowed a gun, I doubt a sniper would do alot in melee range against a swordsman lol.

Put him within melee distance of a man with a holstered gun and I'd expect Musashi to win the draw, so this counts to the present day as well. Put anyone within melee range of this guy and Musashi is going to come out on top, no one could beat him! imo this makes him the best melee fighter of all time

Technically the term "hand to hand" includes contact weapons. While I know I'm being cheeky, I do have a point here:

Hand-to-hand combat is an engagement between two or more persons in an empty-handed struggle or with handheld weapons such as knives, sticks, and rifles with bayonets. These fighting arts are essential military skills. Projectile weapons may be lost or broken, or they may fail to fire. When friendly and enemy forces become so intermingled that firearms and grenades are not practical, hand-to-hand combat skills become vital assets.

A sword would count as a hand to hand weapon becaues hand to hand is different to unarmed - ranged would be different to hand to hand, so rifles are out, I would personally include pistols as they are well suited to it.

My point stands - put anyone within hand to hand combat range of Musashi and they really dont stand a chance.

I know I'm being cheeky here as I've said, but this guy really is the greatest hand to hand combat fighter in recorded history.

the bruce lee documentaries are pretty decent (you know them times where boredom sets in and the biography channel becomes appealing?)

he use to end up fighting extras from his films because of the whole "street" wars going on, proving himself etc
