Not seen:

18Touching the Void
25The Taking of Pelham 123
40Reign of Fire

All the rest are pretty good films, but I'd say half of them aren't disaster movies though.

Oh dear god lamp, that film was horrifically bad. They absolutely butchered a classic.

o_O Die Hard was first? How? Surely Meteor > Plane

The second Die Hard was the plane, the first one was Nakatomi Plaza iirc.

Seen most of the movies, probably 3 or 4 I haven't seen, I definetly don't agree with Die Hard being nr1 tho, but I guess I define disaster differently from the guys who made the list.

That list is quite poor honestly. For one, perfect storm and die hard on the list(even if die hard wins all in any list ever anytime), and for example independence day missing completely.

I'd rate godzilla in the top of disaster movies, and that new one, what was it...well..the one with the handheld filming. They were the best "at the time", as in, had a good impact.

And also:

o_O Die Hard was first? How? Surely Meteor > Plane

Forshame!!!

The Taking of Pelham 123 isn't a disaster movie. Its about a bunch of men armed with machine guns holding a subway train and its passengers to ransom. Brilliant film. You youngsters will hate it - there are no superheros, no thumping rap music, no special FX, and no mobile phones. Just good old fashioned 1970s goodies v badies.

Bet many youngsters wouldn't understand Spencer and Hill movies either :D

Absolute class though, beats most movies these days.

For me the definition of a disaster movie is a horrible accident or nature going berzerk...
After looking through that list there's about 10 movies i haven't seen and 20 movies i'd never label as a disaster movie.
Bestest ever disaster movie (from the list)? The towering inferno... but only because i consider Armageddon more of a action/adventure/comedy movie then a real disaster movie...

I dont see how Die Hard could be classed as a disaster movie. Its not as if an entire city is going to be wiped out. Or something thats going to destroy half the world. Its only one building. This obviously implies to other films on the list as well.

Towering Inferno is the daddy!

Deep impact was good too I think, much better than Armaggedon imo.

How they can call cliffhanger a disaster movie I dont know, ok a plane crashes in the middle of nowhere but its hardly a disaster! Bah, this is why I never watch C5 !

Die Hard a disaster movie?

And what about Independance Day?

I think my top five would be:

Day After Tomorrow
Independance Day
Deep Impact
Twister
Invasion of the Body Snatchers

I wouldn't even class a lot of those movies as "disaster"

Surely a disaster movie has some sort of natural disaster in it doesnt it?

Die Hard's a good film but I'd class it as an action movie not a disaster movie. And the top 5 should be mostly films made in the 70's that was the Golden Age of the disaster movie.

Poseidon is #1

Agree that lots of the films on the list didn't really classify as disaster movies to me either.

Someone hijacking a plane isn't a disaster movie, it's an action movie.
A disaster movie should be something none of the characters in the film have control over.
