Thought that was a great video! I think it provokes reactions cos this guy is showing true charactersitics of fatherhood. I'd agree that those who do anything out of love for their kids, regardless of the situation, would demand the same respect, but this video just encapsulated it nicely :worthy: Big-up the dads!

I don't think i've ever ever totally agreed with anything you've come out with dude. I don't know why your regarded as 'teh seel' etc. when most of what you says is the total opposite of what the majority thinks.

But yes, very emotional video. The willpower to be able to do that is immense and to think its hard for a normal athlete, let alone a middle aged man and his disabled son.

Enjoyed the music too. Very nice.

Actually, I agree completely with what Tohtori said. This video is just a very strong, athletic guy who carrys his kid(who happens to be retarded) with him during triathlons.

This makes him no better than the guy who takes his retarded kid out to the shops or the movies, rather than swimming through water while dragging him along in a boat behind him. I'm not denying the fact that this guy is obviously a great father, but he's no greater than the guy who might not be fit enough to do a triathlon and spends time with his son doing other things.

Just because it's set to some corny music, everyone thinks it's some beautiful video.

On this topic, i wasn't against it, i just didn't find it any more or less special then any other father with a disabled son/daughter.

And i hated the music...the vid's cool with the theme from topgun though, worth checking out.

That's not the point though.

It speaks for the entire father-ing population, just shows one of the more stronger of the dads in terms of mental and physical abilities.

No-one said his the best dad ever (except for the thread-starter in the title - which probably wasn't intentional) but his the most fitting example to show what a dad CAN do for his son. A great dad will take his son to the cinema, disabled or not. A great dad will show his love in the best of his extent. This guy can show it in an extent that requires a lot of willpower, mental power and physical strength. Hence he is best used to show what dads can do.

Corny music? Not really. It was very nice music and it fit in well with the video. Even without the music on, I still appreciated the nature of the video.

And Tohtori, I'm not really bothered if your teh seel or not, I was merely a bit confused on how some regard you as a legend yet you always seem to have an opinion that is voiced by very few people.

If you want more of a background story about the Hoyt's check this video. The reason the father started running is because at the age of 15, his son asked his father if he could participate at a 5 mile run.

The father wasn't a runner, but agreed to participate anyway. After they crossed the finish line the son told his father that he for once he didn't feel disable.

Since then they competed in a lots of marathons together.

hmm... the kid ain't retarded though, he's mentally bright enough so it seems to me, since he graduated and all. He just has physical problems.

But indeed, the music is not my style, and I do not consider this dad greater than any other dad that may not have the stamina to take up an ordeal like a triathlon with a disabled kid, but finds other ways more fitting to his style to cope with that situation.

A while ago, on Extreme Make-over, Home Edition, there was this family (Vardon Family) with two deaf parents, and two kids, one was just normal, had no problems, but the other was blind and autistic. Now, that's some determination of both the parents aswell as that elder son...

I saw that episode and also shed some tears that episode. The only "normal" member in the family was the 15 year old son who was like the most incredibely devoted human beeing ever.

Was very touching to watch.

I watched that episode too! But to be fair, most Extreme Makeover Home Edition episodes have heroic families in them - they all deserve their new 5* home
