Personally I was glad to see the back of the eighties and Acid House and Madchester was the best way of putting the 80s behind us we could have wished for.

The 80's actually had a fair bit of good music, unfortunately not much of it made it to the mainstream audiences. Think about it, the early 80's had the popular-punk era (with bands like the Clash still going strong), followed by post-punk (PiL, Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, Dead Kennedy's), goth (Bauhaus, Siouxsie & the Banshees) & indie (The Smiths, Stone Roses, The La's) & trance/dance (New Order), then grunge (Mudhoney, Nirvana) & indie pop. You had hip-hop & Rap (Run DMC, Public Enemy, NWA) & house & breakdance from the US.
