Graphix Problem I think!!

:(

So it really comes down to an issue with the DAoC gfx engine and something on your PC. Have absolutely no idea what it could be as it could be anything :(

Have you asked GOA/RightNow about it? Maybe they, or even Mythic, have come across the problem. I know I am still getting issues with my install (third install now, and they were there in the beta) regarding graphical issues and rendering problems. And it has been put down to a problem with the engine and memory leaks.

There is always the last-resort windows reinstall, which your system should be fine with, but you would need to save everything you need kept to another drive/CD as only a format of the system drive would be easiest way to get a fresh install.

If you are going to do this, make sure you have drivers for whatever method your cable modem uses (Network card or USB). XP will probably have these, but just to be safe. Once you are back on the 'net you can get whatever drivers you need.

This will probably be the best way to fix the problem, even if it is drastic :(

Well thanks for all your help... however... this is the sad part...

To be honest, ever since I bought this game I have had the feeling that I and everyone else are PAYING for the privilege of beta testing this thing.

With all the bugs/connection problems/incompatibility issues/class imbalances/nerfs/boosts to skills/tweaking and tinkering that has happened since I started playing 6 months ago and with more on the way, Im really not sure I can be bothered anymore.

What Im certainly NOT going to do is completely reinstall my entire system just so I can play a semi finished game!

So... I think that this is kind of goodbye from me for now, I will keep my account open for a little bit longer in the hope that they come back to me from RightNow with some helpful solution to my problem. However, I wont hold my breath.

I may be back for SI or maybe not depends on these technical issues I am facing of course.

Thanks for all your help and much head scratching Im sure.

Yours sadly

hello agian there
i guess that this is you first massive multiplayer online game
the thing is because it is online and there are so many people playing it that tweaks become inevitable (just like update patches for normal single player games) with the aspect to the nerfs they are there to try to balance out ALL the players for example if warriors could deffeate anyone with hardly any loss to hp you will bet that everyone will play warriors as they (unles sadistic) do not like getting beaten stupid(thinks of his first go in the battle grouds (thanks mids) dead in 4 seconds)). We all are striving to be the best at DAoC, the people moaning about the nerfs is a) because of this and b) because people hate change, me i moan about it becuase i feel my class is underpowered compared to the rest but there you go.

Connections problems well it is on the internet and a network(server farm) and with all the bankrupcies lately it is bound to happen. I mean we play and connect to servers in france how are we to know, that right now, they are not having a massive electrical storm that will nockout the power station that feeds the power to the building where the server farm is ???

As for your problems have you experianced these problems whilst playing any other games for the same amount of time as you play DAoC, if you have it might be an overheating problem as suggested and well i have personnelly tried to help as much as i can but have run out of ideas if it is not. If you do get this while playing other games then i think that you should contemplate asking the shop that built it for you to sort out the problem...

Other than that i do not want to see a good player go just because of the things you have listed above, yes the get on your nerves (ignoring GFx prob) but then think of all the fun you have with your realm mates kicking albions and midguards butt.

I do hope that you
a) get it sorted (reference the GFx problem) and come back and ignore the other stuff
b) come back when SI comes out and that sorts your problem
or
C) just live with it and come back

:D

Ps on a little side not you have installed the latest Directx driver as the last thing you have installed (always make sure these are the last thing you install) and also the sound drivers make sure they are the latest.. other than that i hope that you get it sorted

Thanks :)

Ditty: No this isnt my first MMORPG, I played UO way back when, also Anarchy Online (briefly) and played Everquest for well over a year, so I realise the problems that on line games have and will continue to have. The reason I stopped playing EQ was because I was fed up with weekly patches and logging in to find my beloved Necro changed every 5 minutes.

I think the problems I mentioned (and my frustration at them) comes from games designers (and not just this game) NOT having a clear plan for how characters will grow and develop... like sitting down at inception and saying "Right...at level 1 this char will have x,y,z and will be able to do ....1,2,3.....at level 50 this char will have a,b,c, will be able to do 7,8,9" and testing those abilities thoroughly before launch. How many time have we seen statements from Mythic saying things like ... Oh...umm well we never intended x class or y ability to do this.... so I ask...why didnt you realise this in design, why didnt you realise this in testing, why didnt you realise this in closed beta, why didnt you realise this in open beta and why has it taken so long for you to do something about it?

I think also that my comments were born from a deeper frustration, like over the past 4-6 weeks only having been able to play for like a day a week in total play time. I am STILL to find out what/who was responsible for some people in Finland NOT being able to connect to DAoC for 5 days and more importantly... what they are going to do about it. Even an apology would be nice!

At the end of the day, I really enjoy DAoC, I think in general its a great game with many good features to it, Noita is also 49.7or thereabouts so this is also adding to my frustration a bit :(

Anyway, just an update...I did reinstall XP (with the man from Fujitsu Siemens on the other end of the phone guiding me step by step :) ) however, since reinstalling Windows XP my system is worse than ever :(

Now I cant play any game that has a 3D component to it, from Empire Earth to Dungeon Seige... Asherons Call to DAoC. All resulting in the same crash. Solid screen of vertical lines and the resultant reboot.

I got a PC benchmarker, and ran the tests, all was fine till it came to analysing the gfx card... 2D test came and went and passed without incident. 3D test immediately caused my PC to crash. Ran DirectX diagnostic and the 3D test caused my system to fall over.

Prior to reinstallation I was only unable to play DAoC and Asherons Call, everything else was fine... Morrowind/Dungeon Seige etc now nothing works :(

However the 3D gfx on my Media Player seem to be ok, but maybe they use something different than games? Dont know.

anyway it sounds like your machine id FUBAR'ed (fucked up beyond all recognition, "lethal weapon")
i would suggest that you are on the phome to them it sounds like either the graphics cards is dying a painful death or something else....
pc back to there workshop i suggest
sorry for all the hassle that has been caused and I hope that you get it sorted soon.

I have the little men from Fujitsu Siemens coming to my home to play Doctor within the next few days. I would be very upset if its a gfx card hardware issue, as the PC is less than 6 months old. But never mind, Im sure they will sort it out for me :) So my PC is still under warranty and I will get any FUBAR'ed parts replaced :)

I was going to buy a new gfx card soon anyway nVidia gForce 4 or some such.

Yeah EQ was fun, just think how long it took me to get my Necro to level 44 :eek6:
