Graphix card question

Being a bit of a tech n00b, I just wanted some reassurance that I haven't done something foolish here, so if any graphic card gurus would like to share their wisdom, I'd be very happy.

I just ordered a LeadTek GeForce 8800GT Extreme 512MB. I was chosing between that and a "normal" 8000GT which is exactly the same but without the "extreme" in the name.

Checking the specs of these two cards, i noticed that the Extreme version had a slightly higher GPU speed 680Mhz instead of 600 and 2000Mhz instead of 1800 on the memory. That's all the difference that I could see.

All this to a cost of about £20 more than the other card. So, my question is - did I do right to order this one? I just don't want to get any nasty surprises and I can still cancel the order if needed.

P.S. The 8800GT Extreme isn't the same as 8800GTX, is it?

Seriously, a lot of people have asked questions of a thousand varieties on this forum. There are other tech questions further down this page (the one about which CPU) in which you have happily posted answers yourself. I don't see the difference so you just seem to be an ass, really.

80 mhz for 20 pounds.. that is quiet expensive as you could have overclocked it yourself with ease But it was a smart choice not to buy something more expensive as new cards by Nvidia is in the making. But if you are a tech noob then it might be smart to not tamper with overclocking and buy an already clocked one. (Have had to format my comp due to hdd failure a few times a year due to CPU overclocking, while my lil bro doesn´t touch anything but still has no problems) So it saves alot of fuss to be clueless sometimes xDD

Aye, I have no clue how to overclock things.. I just know i've heard that things can go wrong if you're not careful. Are you saying the card i got is already overclocked then? Anyway, the extra money isn't the whole world. I was mostly just confused since i had never heard anyone mention the "extreme" version, so i was worried it was one of those "stay away from this!" cards. Also good to hear that the 8800GT card in general is a good one.

i think you can't go wrong on either card for less then 1 pound per month difference (if you use it 2 year)

My problem atm is I am due to buy a new comp in the next few days, just that I am pissed that what ever I buy is a death knell for what we all know as depreciation. For me it's gotta be quad, but the crux of my problem is as always gfx. God damnit, slow the dev down, programmers can't keep up with regards to games etc. Used to be the other way around, now it's insane. Perhaps the recession will slow it down a bit /shrug
