Graphics card options?

Hi, Need some advice for u hardware gurus.Just bought a new machine as my mobo give up the ghost, now as i only play 1 game which is swg at moment i was wondering whther my old video card which was a 128 meg geforce 4 ti 4800 will out perform the one i got with new machine , a 256 meg geforce 5200fx. And if it warrants swapping them out.

Not a lot in it. The 4800 has more raw processing power but the 5200 may have better hardware support for DirectX 9.

My guess would be that the 5200 would be better with all gfx options turned up but the 4800 might produce a better framerate with some options off.

Just to keep u updated ive tried and benchmarked both and play tested in swg and the ti4800 blows it away by a million miles was double the score on 3dmark 2003. Reasonable happy with the performance only thing is with a double fan my pc now sounds like the testing bay of a rolls royce engine.

Well ofc it does

the 4800 was the top of the range of the gf4's and the 5200 is the bottom of the fx's

the 5200 is like the gf4 mmx its bottom of the range and doesnt have the grunt to shift poly's

you would have to go for the 5600 or higher to gain performance with the 5200 all you done is gain some dx9 features and lost speed.

i use a GF4 420 and it works ok for me
