How do.

I'm getting to the point that I'm starting to notice lack of performance in my games. Not many of them, but enough to annoy me - particularly NFS Shift 2, a jitter here or there = crash.

Anyway, upgrading my graphics would be relatively cheap but I'm wondering if my CPU will bottleneck it making it a pointless purchase. I'm running a C2D e6600 at stock speed (2.4ghz), a GTX 260 and 4gbs of RAM should it matter.

I've seen you can get a GTX 460 1gb for about 130 quid which sounds good, but am I going to see a significant boost in performance or is my CPU going to screw that up?

TIA!

I dont know about the specific game Nath, but I just upgraded from the same system but overclocked to 3.0 gig.

I now have a i7 Sandybridge and it flies. Thing is, I've still got the GTX260 :)

Yeah I've thought about OC'ing, I might give that a bash and see if it does anything.

I did think about upgrading the CPU throd, but that'd mean new mobo, new cpu and new ram. A bit more than I really wanted to spend tbh.

I overclocked my Conroe to 3gig a piece of piss, lasted for a year no worries and would still be going now, but I did find that the odd really new game was a bit slow :(

The C2D e6600 should overclock well. However the MB has tobe up for it aswell. What do you have?

When I was oc'ing (same cpu) it was my ram that ultimately held me back.

Board should do fine. Infact the board should have come with AI-Suite, which will allow you todo everything in Windows itself (with a pretty interface). Be carefull if you have a raid though. If it has to reset, it will reset your RAID aswell :p

I remember the AI suite when I was using XP, couldn't find the software for 7 64bit but I'll have another look. Completely forgot about it, thanks for reminding me :D.

Oh fucking terrific. G27 arrives and the clamps are too small to fit on my desk. Spent 2 hours searching for dimensions for the clamp before I bought it and could find nothing. One forum post suggested 6 inches and it's not even half that.

Grr.
