Using nvidia 5700 ultra, decent cheap card with nice performance and possible (if needed) easy overclocking.

should be able to get an ati 9800 pro for those sort of prices maybe a little more ... they are supposed to be better than the nvidia cards or a similar spec and is one or 2 steps up from a 5700

I'm running on an ABIT Siluro Geforce 4 Ti4200 right now. DAoC graphics work perfect. (Have AMD Athlon XP 2000+) Other games don't complain either (Farcry on medium quality was very smooth, on high quality it skipped from time to time). You could proly get a used TI4200 really cheap.
Don't take the GeForce 5xxx series tho, you are better off taking ATI's 9xxx series. If youre gonna go ATI X800, go Nvidia 6800/6600 tho. I Would seriously recommend saving like 250 euros or so, getting a GeForce 6600 GT or something similar.
I've read a few articles on the net, and it seems the ATI 9xxx series are generally better than geforce 5xxx series and 6600/6800 bit better than the Radeon X series. Might be a matter of opinion tho.

But your gf4 is not dx9 card so you lose all the bells and whistles .. and you can make anything run smooth enough if you have the window size small enough .. i bet you werent playing far cry at 1600.1200 or even 1280x1024 ... prob more like 800x600 actually

I just got a Gforce fx 5700 OC for £150 ( no idea what that is in euros though). DAOC runs like a dream, with all settings set high, and games like doom3 look loads better than my old crappy card :)

I upgraded my GFX card last month, in the end spent £300 on a nice Geforce 6800 GT, I know this is past your budget, but if I was upgrading again I would stick with Geforce - asked many of our tech guys at work, some said ATI was better, others said Geforce, guess its down to personal preference, but ive always had a Geforce and been very happy, the card i replaced was a Geforce 3 TI and had kept my machine going for 3yrs easily with DAOC.

Also heard of problems with the ATI drivers.. well more than Geforce.

Was running at 1024x768. Was very smooth on medium.
True, I forgot to mention GF4 doesn't support DX9.
Anyway a used GF4 would be real cheap. GeForce 5700 is a good choice, though I think an ATI 9700 would do the job better. :p
