I can confirm it feckin rocks. :)

Shame I'm at work now and can't play it. But, damn it's good.

There's a cool feature that lets you skip the long boring car rides to mission locations if you've attempted the mission before.

There's a skill system too which looks like it could take rather a long time to get to the max. Although I spent my first 4 days "in game" down the gym and am now a fully fledged beefcake with maximum muscle rating. heh. Button mashingly good.

Also just a little easter egg for you to look out for, make sure you check out your house properly.

My biggest fault with the game so far is it's an utter bitch to get any money.
I'm not a good way into it by a long shot but I've got about 60 dollars in my pocket. :( I die and get busted too much.

Sounds a good idea they had a similar mod for vice city which sped things up a bit.

Going to pick my copy up a bit later on, ale-induced-headache at the moment, BUT! if you haven't bought it yet and are getting it from Currys ask the person serving you to check the 'Customer Offers' button when they sell it :) There is a package for £39.99 which is Drakengard(sp? - not heard of it but nevermind), a controller, a cheat disc and GTA:SA. Not too bad, I'll take mine down choices and trade them in and get some money towards Pro Evo.

My copy just arrived five mins ago in the post, all i heard was the post box go and my bastard dog chewing away at the case.

Lucky she only tore the corners of the big cardboard case off, and my San Andreas don't have a mark on, i'll read the booklets, then give it a whirl ;)

It's probably the best game I've ever played on the PS2. Possibly the greatest game I've ever played on a games console. Haven't played a SP game for 6 hours straight for years, but I just couldn't seem to pull myself away from this. If you haven't already, buy it.

one of the guys in work came in showing it off this morning, its bloody tiny!

i read somewhere that if you have an early PS2 (a-la £300 RRP model) you get a lot of graphical issues playing in later parts of GTA:SA due to the amount of textures being tossed about, supposedly the internals have went through major overhauls to improve the speed of it.

its so annoying sitting at work, seeing the shiny case and knowing you cant play it for ages...
well okay, until after 6pm... but i have to setup my surround kit first, so thats the rest of the night wasted :(

[pimp]
p.s. argos does a lovely accoustic surround kit with optical and co-axial inputs for £80, its quite spangily.. and they also do the optical cables for £12 to wire the PS2 up to it. it's design is to wire into the back of a DVD player/games console instead of the telly, so standard terrestial television doesnt come out through the speakers... unless you got audio out or have a headphone socket to do it all from

Yeah, i have slowdown on some parts of the game but i wub it. lots and lots. The story line is really compelling.

And i dunno whats wrong with kenny, but i hardly get busted or killed this time round :p Bought myself a property and am now a fully fledged pimp (literally). I like they way they've made it like the sims, makes you more involved with your character rather than getting bored with it and seeing if the guy can survive a 200 foot drop.

and the map is fucking massive. I mean, literally. MASSIVE! I've been playing 5 hours and i still havent gotten out of the first corner.

I've been doing taxi missions/pimp missions/ fire fighting missions to increase my knowledge of the area but its still maasssive. Want more guns atm tho, boring only having a pistol and an Uzi so far.

I love it so far. Bought me a new tiny ps2 aswell (had to get the gay one with spidey2 as that's all they had in asda and I was working night shift).

My only problem is this: I left my bloody mem card at home.

Yep I got it on Friday morning and its great fun. :) My only gripe is the hip hop theme which doesn't really appeal to me. I'm not sure how much more "******" or "fo schizzle" I can handle. :(
Preferred the mafia thingy.

I'm leaving the gangland part of the game alone for now. I'm not really sure if it will damage my progress in any way if I don't protect my turf and attack the enemy's. I'll wait and see.

Yeah, I just got into the gangland "protecting your turf" thing too. It's a bit of a pain but if you stock up well enough and stick close to the health it's not too difficult. I just don't like having to drop wht I'm doing to go and defend my turf when none of my homies seem to be helping. Unless I get them in a car with me and they're firing out of the back seat. :)

Find a really busy long stretch of road, a very fast motorbike and make sure its in a very busy town bit and youll see why the blur was introduced to the highspeed sections the minute you crash.. Takes around 1-2 seconds for the PS2 to render the textures from the muddy mess that they are :) Youll need a very large stretch tho and to be weaving very well.

Absolutely loving the game tho - proof that graphics > gameplay

Changeing a few things on my ps2 drivers helped me alot.

I've just got on the New Island, damn i think Jackson does a great job as Tenpenny.

Right now am a big buff, with shades, vest, jeans and dogtag :D

The turf war missions can be a pain, but am already a Hitman with the AK47,Machine gun and pistol, thanks to doing them.
I think the wars stop if you take out all the other gangs territory.

Only read if you have done all the Catalina missions:

Real nice the way they tied the story in with Catalina going off with the GTA3 guy to Liberty City. I just read that she is the same person who double-crosses him and shoots him in the cutscene at the beginning of GTA3. Nice work there by Rockstar! :) I think they shoulda kept her in for longer though, she was a good character imo.

Aye i noticed that, as i just did GTA3 a week ago, i wish she had a more major part, it was great hearing her and CJ chatting to each other on the missions. The race track for the mission was a huge pain in the ass, and am still wondering were the Garage is i won?

Anyways, back to playing.

The only thing that would stop me giving it 10/10 would be the crud graphics and the shocking framerate. I even resorted to trying it out on a smaller TV. Thank god this is the last PS2 exclusive.

I've stopped playing at 35% to make the game last. Time to explore some more.

So stating facts is picking holes now, ok.

Fact is for me it looked terrible even with component video on a 42", terrible on a 36" and "ok" at best on my 21" "spare room" TV. Blurry, jaggy, weird colours and cruddy textures. I must have messed with the digital options in my TV for around an hour before I even started playing properly

At the end of the day, if people had the choice between a PS2, Xbox or PC release of GTA then anyone with functional eyes would choose the Xbox/PC ver. At least this time next year we can play a decent quality release of GTA:SA.

gameplay versus graphics my friend. And gameplay wins for sure. I hated the combine harvester mission, but since then its gotten better and better.

new city! (joy)
