Go here to see the first released screenshots for the PS2 version of GTA San Andreas, due for release this October.
Looks nice, I reckon driv3r will be better tho. The screenshots look purty :) Plus it has Michael Madsen doing vocals on the main character

I'll start getting excited when they actually bother to design a game for hardware that isn't horrible, and massively out of date.

They really should have waited for the next gen of consoles, they could have pushed the game so far. Instead they decide to milk the ps2's worth, disappointing.

I dunno, Polyphony seem to be doing a pretty good job of making the PS2 make lovely graphics with Gran Turismo 4. The preview videos still make me do a wet in my pants.

Looks disappointing graphically tbh. GTA3's engine only slightly bling-ed up.

I never did finish VC, or GTA3, cba tbh.

Finished Max Payne 2 the other day - now there's a superb game. The alternate ending even give me a lump in the throat.

Fuckin special. Even, if like the first game, it lasted less time than your average elephant orgasm.

For the sake of completeness, I'll continue...

There's a flood of information just out regarding San Andreas not all of it is verified, but has all come from the E3 area.

The game is set in the early nineties. San Andreas itself is a state (California) made up of three cities, Los Santos (Los Angeles, NWS, gangsta-rap, street crime), San Fierro (San Francisco, smog, hills, trams), and Las Venturra (Las Vegas, casinos baby!). Each city is roughly the size of Vice City and accessible across long stretches of desert.

Building interiors are much more detailed, and there's the ability to burgle property, play the tables in Las Venturra or run a casino. There's a stamina meter requiring you to eat and rest (possibly) and the ability to recruit other drivers to help you on missions.

It is disappointing that yet again it'll be made for PS2 hardware. Mafia will probably still look better that San Andreas.

Personally I can't wait to get hold of a red convertible and burn across the desert towards Las Vegas...

"We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold."

Hohohoholy shit!

Y'know, i've been waiting for this kind of feature in a game, since forever. :)

It's also interesting to hear it's set in the early nineties, though i had suspected as much.

Because of this info, my need for this game has increased ten-fold.

If the soundtrack doesn't feature Today was a Good Day by Ice Cube bad things will happen.

I've always been a fan of GTA. It's not just a game that can kill whole days of your life at a time, it fills up all the gaps: just rob a car, mow some peeps down, and run away for a few minutes just to see how long you can last!

:flame:

In other news, I hate gang culture what with all the bling and baggy-clothedness and shaking about and folding of arms and posing and rap-"music" and shell-suit uniformed townies guarding their 'hood shite. Please get this degenerate filth out of my games. (nb: true but inflammatory)

In other other news, I've never see one before sir, no-one has; but I'm guessing it's a tree.

Aren't the Mafia a 'gang culture'?

Incidentally not all rap music is the same, perhaps you should try listening to more than the latest fiddy song on radio 1?

It's not so much what can be done with the PS2, it's more what can be done with other technologies now. Money dictates though, and keeps the console going longer than it should do: imagine what we'd be pushing and the leaps we'd be seeing if we kept working with upcoming technology, rather than making the technology, launching it and then working with it. Currently technology is developing very quickly, and we're not working to keep up with it for the sake of short-term profit.

I wonder which era this is supposed to be set in.

Also lets not forget that the PS2 is quite an old machine, and the graphics can in no way hold up to the likes of the newest FPS's.

Set in the 90's and the developers aid after vice city was released, that the next game will use the same game engine, so its not the Ps2's fualt it looks smilar to the previous 2 games, but then a user base of over 50 odd million peeps woulda helped

It's a shame this one, like Vice City - won't be multiplayer.

They're really missing a trick with that I think. As good as Multi-Theft Auto is, it isn't really a replacement for ground-up development with multiplayer in mind (i.e the engine, etc). :(

PS2 was never designed with online in mind it was a bolt on a year+ down the line. The PS3 is all about multiplayer as its original design spec was supposidly to be a online only console. If GTA on the PS3 / Xbox 2 isn't a MMO of some form i will be very much supprised.

Good god, John - conceed on one fucking point for the love of god! EVERYONE knows that Xbox Live is better than Sony Online options - you may not want to play the games the xbox has to offer, but at least admit that the online service microsoft offers is a better one.

Trying to sell rap music to UK peeps is like trying to sell an eskimo a fridge.

First they wonder what the hell it is and eventually they just f*ck it.

I'm not that fussed - online console gaming seems a tad homosexual to me. At least Sony have the common decency not to ask me to pay for it (apart from the BB Adapter obviously, but then I haven't bought that either. That's how much online console gaming appeals to me). In my book free shit > shit you have to pay for. Hence Sony > M$ again.

That'll be an opinion for you!
