Hi guys

FedEx Guy delivered mine this morning (I have the day off today). Like other titles in the series, it takes a little getting used to the feel of things, but so far everything seems great. Not to add to the hype, but the reviews so far seem fairly on the mark.

Happy gaming :)

Kind regards

Just went on the GAME website to see if it was in stock. What the fuck is this shit!!!!
Grand Theft Auto IV at GAME.co.uk
You can't just buy the fucking game!!! You have to
a) Buy it with a console (I have one thanks)
b) Buy it with a controller (I don't need another one thanks)
c) Buy it with another game and save £15 (I don't want any of your fantastic offer games!!)

What happened to shops just selling games?

Pretty sure loads of shops will have it in stock, the one i went to at midnight had 100 each for ps3/360 on top of the pre-orders and were getting a whole new batch in for this morning.

Well, there's the Special Edition as well, although fuck spending £70 on a game. I'm guessing the web site used most of their initial allocation of normal stock on pre-orders. But you're right, if they have stock to bundle with controllers and shit, they should give you the solus option. Alex, you're a money-grabbing bastard! ;)

*wouldn't have happened in my day, grumble mumble etc. etc.*

They are probably keeping supply low to keep demand high, just like Nintendo.

Lets face it they were well aware of how much it would sell.

Makes fuck all sense tbh.

Why wouldn't they sell as many copies as they could make? Makes bugger all sense to keep supply falsely low in order to keep "demand" high. Demand's high anyway, so wouldn't make sense to not try to sate that demand as much as possible.

I have to wait till next week due to Amazon being absolute fuckwits. :(

Unless somewhere has it in stock on Thursday. I'll get it then. I really am quite hyped for this game. How are you guys finding it? I'm hearing reports of it freezing etc on the PS3, but if you delete the user data and reinstall, it's fine?

Edit: The above paragraph was not intended to start a console bashing session.

That's how marketing works, all retailers pre-order quantities sold out the beginning of April so they were well aware of how the game was selling and how demand was and yet on release day retailers were only given around 100 copies to sell on the shelves, do you honestly think the dvd plants can't produce enough copies running 24/7 to meet demand?

And if they had 20000 copies in stock that they would of bothered opening at midnight, it's all to create a buzz

Sadly it's just Game trying to cash in, Whipped :( They know demand is high, and they realize some people will pay a premium just to get the game. Since they can't raise the price per se, because it will look uncompetitive, they instead offer bundles to take advantage of the situation. Thankfully you can show your distaste by shopping elsewhere :)

As for keeping supply artificially low, it does make sense if the product is in high-demand and carries a decent profit margin. Like the Wii, Nintendo make a fair profit on each unit (mostly because of the accessories and games), so they don't need to sell vast quantities to stay afloat. Instead they can keep supply low, which in turn creates a lot of free publicity about people vying to get a system. This in turn helps to create an air of exclusivity among those who own it, which consequently encourages more people to buy. When stock arrives, stores often advertise (especially in the US), and they benefit from increased sales when everyone arrives to buy (even if they sell out, customers often browse and pick up other items while they're there). It's somewhat of a virtuous cycle for businesses, even if it's frustrating for consumers. However, this doesn't work if the product has a low profit margin, because then you need to shift as many units as you can.

As for GTA IV, it does no harm to keep supply a little low. They probably already made £200m in worldwide preorders, so if they can satisfy these then they're sitting pretty. The rave reviews create free publicity, and if there are stories about low stock then some people will rush out to buy it wherever they can. If there is too much supply, retailers won't be able to shift the stock regardless of how many good reviews the game has, which means they ultimately can have to resort to price cuts.

Anyway, it's all just marketing, at which the GTA guys have always been good (the original game hired Max Clifford to stir up controversy, and even Jack Thompson's moronic comments help to raise interest). At the end of the day, it's a great game, which is all we should care about.

Kind regards

Jonty

P.S. Talking about hype, GameRankings lists GTA IV as having an average review score of 98.8%-99.7%. If 100% is absolutely flawless in every way, then I doubt any game should be coming that close :) If you raise expectations too much, people will only be disappointed.

I was a sucker and got the Special Edition with all the free stuff, I can find a use for the duffel bag, cd and keyring but I am finding it hard to find a use for the safety deposit box.

As for the Game, I only got to play it for a hour yesterday before I had to go out and so far I am impressed, it seems a bit slower than previous games but it doesn't change how fun the game is. I like the fact you have to keep pressing 'a' to sprint and the hand to hand combat is cool, also the police are really good or I am really bad. Can't wait to play it again when I get back from work later.

It's not like you posted This

I've said this elsewhere, but Argos allowed reservations to be made from midnight, many people did so incase they couldn't get a copy elsewhere. These reservations will be freed if uncollected by Thursday. Might be worth a punt.

I stopped buying SE a long time ago they are a complete waste of money imo £70 for a bag/box/keyring and the game?

As for the game i have not touched singleplayer yet apart from getting my phone.

All the MP modes in GTA4 are superb and i cannot believe how they got 16 players and the game running so smooth.

Keeping supply slightly behind demand is, unfortunately, a sensible strategy from Take2, mainly because it puts a lid on one retailer breaking ranks and selling at a discount. If they don't have the stock, they're less likely to spend advertising money on an offer. If they do have the stock, and say, Argos (for argument's sake) drops the price, others will feel obliged to follow suit, and (bad news for Take2), the likes of GAME have the muscle to renegotiate the buy price based on the new (lower) selling price.

Now you may ask yourself why someone like Argos would cut the price on a game like GTA4, when they could sell every copy they get? Well, its purely to drive footfall; low margin companies like Argos and Tesco will use high margin products to drive footfall to store (they can discount a game, but it doesn't really hurt their overall group margin); call it the Harry Potter effect. You'll almost never see a specialist retailer do this unless they absolutely have to.

Sounds like a sensible strategy.

Anyway... on to more pressing matters.

If anyone is really struggling to get hold of a 360 copy I may be able to help. A friend of mine who works for largemediachain inc. got me a copy yesterday. However, he wasn't aware that I had queued outside the store from midnight to bag one myself.

Therefore, I have a spare XB360 copy going which I am willing to sell at the price I paid (£44.99 + postage). It's fully shrink wrapped with the microsoft seal intact. I'm not selling it on ebay as I'm not a twat (despite popular opinion) and don't believe in making money from Take 2's marketing strategy. Plus I would like it to go to someone who really wants the game and has found it genuinely hard to get hold of a copy.

Please PM me if you are interested.

Regards

Jon.. leggy.

in block buster this is 39.99.
you pay £6 deposit but you also get a "free rental" so effectively the game is £33.99. i dont know if you can get it cheaper than that.

cheapest place ive seen it before this was asda for 37.

After you have sealed the deal so to speak with ladies you are dating is there any point in carrying on with them, do you get anything else out of it for still taking them out?
