pikeh how so?

as i said only from personal experience, but the class one nighters seem to always have been smokers- duno what exactly it is, but something along the lines of smoking not looking cool, but them not caring, that whole slap in the face to adhering to the norm kinda thing

and all me best female m8s have always been smokers as well :eek6: they just seem to nbe more liberal and happy with themselves, instread of stuck up and totally image dependant

just think its a filthy habit, and i realise i sound like some old granny.
and i would say it was the opposite of what you are saying. id say the majority of smokers start becuase of pier pressure. the want to look "cool", as all there friends are doing it. you then say all your female friends are smokers. funny that isnt it?
wont non smokers hang around with them? and happy with themselves becuase they smoke? LOL. sorry but i dont see how burning a cancer stick would make you happy as a person. am i right in saying smokers smoke to get rid of stress? so when they arent smoking they are uptight. dont a lot of smokers want to give up?
cant really see the validity of anything you say really. maybe get to know some non smokers.

Only time smoking in a car is illegal is if it is a business vehicle, else it up to you. If someone got an objection to you smoking in your own car then you just shove teh cig up their arse! that will end their objection.

P.s. Not a smoker, hate smoking/smell of smoke but some laws are getting rediculous.

If your in your own car its illegal if its causing you to drive eratically, like using one hand etc etc.

Glad I never got busted for speeding, as I'm mostly too fast. Ok, I do the allowed 50 (km/h) in towns and I really take care not to hit anyone, but once I'm out on the country, I love to go fast.

I mostly just go under 30 km/h too fast, caust at 31+ you loose your license for a month at least :(

EDIT: I think most speed limits are crap anyways, cause nobody cares if you go at 130 or 200 on the motorway, but the difference in safety distances is much more important and instead the police should focus on that. The roadhogs who push right behind you are the biggest shit ever and if I have one behind me, I'm inclined to slow down to the allowed speed just to enrage them :flame:

Loose control on the motorway at 200 and your risking your life and the people around you. It's just as fucking dangerous sir, if not more.

If you take a bump at 30 etc, You're gonna be hurt but death aint often on the menu... Just try escaping at 200, You'd be lucky

Hidden speedcamera's are also a stupid idea.
There are times when going briefly over the speed limit should be allowed. When overtaking for example, or to create a gap for someone to filter in from a slip-road, instead of just staring at each other while you collide.

The big issue with camera's is there's no context for the incident. At least Police with speed-guns could apply common sense as to if you were tearing along like a lunatic, or doing 35 for 30 meters to get past a cyclist.

Having a nation driving along staring constantly at the speedo isn't a way of increasing road safety.. And people that claim you should be able to tell how fast you are going without looking have obviously never actually driven a car and known how fast they were going. Put your average driver in a car and get them to do 30 down a section of road they don't know without a speedo, I can guarantee they won't succeed.

Speeding is allowed when over taking :p Aslong as the second your past the object (Lorry, old woman doing 55etc) you get straight back in and right down to 70 (motorway that is)

No its not if you need to speed to go round some one then they are doing the speed limit. If they are doing 69 you can do 70 and overtake. I would not try to use that as a excuse if you get pulled over.

And speeding up to let a car filter. Or slow down to let them filter?

We should have mobile hidden speed cameras everywhere get these pricks who theink speeding is ok off the roads. I just think its amazing the shite people come out with for speeding and if was there firend or family killed by a speeding driver they would want them dead.

ofc your not allowed to speed while doing a overtake

but as police are human, the might not look too harsh on it, but then again, they might just be dicks aswell and look extra hard

I dont agree with speeding at all, I've been involved in a crash recently that was from some tit speeding on his phone, However i know quite a bit about what will happen when speeding and so on from my uncle (now works in special branch though so the subject of petty crimes etc aint brought up much - Not sure on new laws etc) and he was explaining what would be over looked etc 99% of the time. Fair enough you get some wanker whos had a bad day and nabs you for 71mph or something.

Yeah its not legal to speed when you overtake most traffic cops would let you slide unless you were driving to close. But just saying do not confuse being allowed to do something with it being legal ;) And you should be able to do 77 before being stopped because of the 10% error anyway :)

Plus do you not have to speed for a certian length of time / distance before they do anything more than give you a bollocking?

mobile phone use is the main thing that really pisses me off, i've been almost hit twice in 3 months by cnuts on mobile phones cause they arent paying attention. GRRRRRRR

My mate got a speeding ticket doing 37 in a 30 zone when he called the place up they told him 30-35 they wont bother fining but anything over 35 they will, even if the camera goes off at 34 they will just discard it

personally i dont think there should be a speed limit for the fast lane on a motorway tbh, let alone speed camera's

nice post with some compelling arguments.. rofl

Autobahns, your turn

Thats a myth not the whole of Germany is with out limits.

And why not to allow any speed. A car in the middle lane doing 70 gets a tyre blow out and sways into the out side lane. Now you get some one doing 140 who has no chance to react plows into the other car at twice the speed and you end up with a big pile up.

70 in the middle lane and a animal runs out the driver sways into the outside lane only get get destroyed by someone doing 100+

Now you give some reasons why you need to be doing 100+ instead of 70 please. I will get there quicker and because i can are bull shit btw

So if your on a normal road (not a dual carriageway) and someone in front was doing 55 in a 60 limit, you'd pull out and drive slowly past them at 60?
The fact your in the wrong lane for a vastly extended period of time is almost certainly more dangerous than speeding by a few miles per hour for the couple of meters it takes to get past.
What happens when you pull out, slowly amble alongside them and then something turns up in the distance and you realise at your current speed your not going to make it? Do you break the speed limit for 5 meters to ensure you get back on your side of the road safely. Screech to a halt and pull back in behind the car your overtaking (most likely causing them to panic) or simply drive head first at the oncoming vehicle and hope your airbags fire?

There's plenty of filtering lanes about that don't give you sufficient time when you've actually seen the filtering vehicle to slow down enough to actually let them in. In fact in certain cases you'll both stamp on the breaks and cause a pile up. Much better to pull 5 mph over the limit for 5 meters and let the car that's behind you slow down and filter safely than simply sit there rigidly at the limit and risk an accident.
If you've passed a driving test you should have the common sense to decide what's a sensible descision to avoid an accident and what's you wanting to tear arse your way along the road to get somewhere 5 minutes faster.

Lets put hidden speeding camera's everywhere. The speeding pricks will know well before it's coming and either "take the risk" like they do currently with police traps, or drive around staring at their speedo's instead of actually concentraing on the child running out in front of them.

People driving dangerously is a much bigger problem than people glancing over the speed limit occasionally. Please note i'm not saying that speeding isn't driving dangerously, i'm saying there's a world of difference between thinking it's fine to drive at 40 in a 30 zone cos your great and drifting up to 35 for a short while by accident while driving through a 30 zone.
You'd probably save just as many lives if you taught people how to cross the road properly as you would by getting all drivers down to some arbitory limit however. The number of kids I see charging across the road inbetween cars not 30 meters from a crossing every day is staggering, yet it's never reported as being the pedestrians fault.

Having no speed limit on the outer lane of a motorway isn't idiotic. Maybe it's worth pointing out that the speed limit of 70 was created at a time when cars didn't have nearly the same stopping ability or safety measures that todays cars have. Driving at 100 now is probably actually much like driving at 70 was when the speed limit was put there.

What is idiotic is giving people that can't recognise that the speed they are doing in the outside lane is wrong, not because some sign tells them it is but because it's actually dangerous, a licence in the first place!
If you need a sign at the side of the road to tell you what is a safe speed to travel at for that piece of tarmac, then you should of quite conclusively failed your test!

By the law of the land yes as it say overtake only when safe not speed to get past them in a small gap so you gan go 5mph faster. Shit excuse for speeding.

The fact your in the wrong lane for a vastly extended period of time is almost certainly more dangerous than speeding by a few miles per hour for the couple of meters it takes to get past..
yeah why not say lets just speed by 5mph to get round them. Now lets just go at 10mph no make it 20mph more. i know lets doo 100mph in a 60 and just go round everyone its safer than keep breaking and speeding up again!

What happens when you pull out, slowly amble alongside them and then something turns up in the distance and you realise at your current speed your not going to make it? You learn to drive and only over take when you have room to do it and if you would over take some one doing 58 so you could do 60 you are a loser

There's plenty of filtering lanes about that don't give you sufficient time when you've actually seen the filtering vehicle to slow down enough to actually let them in. I have passed a driving test and i only overtake cars that are doing well below the speed limit so i can go to 60 and get round them very fast.

Lets put hidden speeding camera's everywhere. The speeding pricks will know well before it's coming and either "take the risk" like they do currently with police traps, or drive around staring at their speedo's instead of actually concentraing on the child running out in front of them..
You missed the mobile. And people who claim to have been driving who say they need to stare at there speedos i always want to send for driving lessons my Dad can and I can both drive my car and know that at 3000 revs in 3rd gear we are doing 30 and my car at 3000revs sounds different to at 4500 40 so i do not need to stare at my speedo to know im not breaking the speed limit.

The advert says it all hit a kid at 30 80% chance of life at 40 80% chance of death. That is enough reason to not glance over the speed limit incase a kids runs in front off you falls off a bike infront of you or anything else. And like every bad driver you see on Road Wars it is all the kids the pedestrians and the other drivers fault.

Sorry I forgot that we live in a world where unexpected things never happen.
So you have plenty of space to pull out and overtake someone doing 40 in a 60 zone, you pull out with 2 miles of clear visibility and so your about level with you just infront and a cow wanders out of a hole in the wall so your not going to make it, what do you do?

You didn't actually reply to my question here. If a car is filtering your not overtaking it. Your slightly ahead already and have no choice about if your "overtaking it or not". I'm also not saying you should use it as an excuse for speeding, but that driving in such a way that you don't hit the other car should be the thing your concentrating on, not that your not going to be doing 2mph over the limit.

Congratulations on having the only car in the world that requires the same number of revs to do 30 both up and down hill. I can assure you that if you drove up the road next to my house in 3rd gear at 3000 revs in your car you'd be doing about 10mph tops. If your not actually looking at the speedo, how can you be sure your not doing over 30? Have you actually ever got someone to sit behind you and stare at it in your place?

I'm fairly sure deciding what % is the drivers fault on a TV show based around getting ratings by showing the worst drivers they can find footage of slightly sceptical.
What the advert doesn't say is that I think hitting an adult at 15 is probably more likely to cause death than hitting them at 25 since they are more likely to go under the car than get thrown over it. The advert very carefully chooses the statistic that most dramatically gets the result they want, rather than giving the full unbiased breakdown of all the statistics, much like every other advert you'll ever watch.
The chance probably falls to 5% chance to kill them if you hit them at 5mph. Do you actually think reducing all speed limits to 5 would be a good thing to do, it is afterall going to save lives.

And that reason is that the governement is happily giving out driving licences to people that don't know what speed they can drive at safely, or don't care about driving safely.
If that wasn't the case they wouldn't be needed.

I have traveled all over seen burst tyres on the motorway, hell even swerve to miss some pushbikes once on the fast lane, I think 70mph is prob safest way imo
