Got done for speeding

I'm not one to condone speeding it is wrong was done for going 35mph in a 30 mph zone on the letter I received was not a fine, just conformation to ask me if I was the one driving, and to ask me for my driving license number,so it's making me wonder what will happen next cause I've never been done for speeding before

you wont get done for anything less than 7mph more than the limit (unless its in like a school 10mph zone) because at 30+ you cant tell the speed to such a degree, and speedometers are often +/- 3 or 4 mph wrong so they have to account for this

I'm betting you were doing 40+ in a 30 zone, but I do condone speeding, bad drivers should be punished, one can still be safe doing 40 in most 30 zones, but a bad driver doing 10mph is 1000x worse

Since you didn't get a fine straight away, it might be just a warning or a point on your license.

If you got a letter, you're going to get points. I think its a 10% threshold they let you off. So 33 or under is fine, 34 or over = points. You MUST disclose any licence endorsements to your insurance company. Your premium will go up.

Granted im a clarkson fan, but hes kinda right on some issues even if he does come across as a twat to some. I mean, drink driving statistics, they speak for themselves in that more people die/have accidents from being drunk and walking into the path of an oncoming car (and the figures are pretty much 5 fold) than do from drink driving in itself.

And yeah, agree with you toht about the rules being in place for a reason (and applying to everyone) I kind of disagree though due with the extent britain goes to uphold these driving laws, compared to how lax and simply astonishingly bad we seem to be at upholding more relevent (in my mind) laws/scenarios.

yea twas what I was saying, its that 10% + a few mph due to innacurate speedometers, works out around 36-37 before the cameras kick in

Dont stress yourself over it as im pretty sure you will get only 3 points or just a warning as its your first offense. But if they give you 3 points and a fine, the fine would be something like 50 to 100 pound

Its bollocks, where I live its like everyone adds 10 to whatever speedlimit area they are in and drives at that instead.

Unless of course its national speed limit, in which case instead of adding 10 its 20,30,40, whatever you feel like getting away with.

When I first started driving I was the only person on the road I ever saw who took a notice of speed limits, excepting those dangerous old people who drive at 20 mph everywhere and indicate the wrong way at junctions.

I drive at the limit or within 4-5 mph of it within 20/30/40/50 mph areas, and up to 75/80 in national speed limit areas. It seems to work well, but I still seem to end up with twat white van drivers trying to mount me from behind atleast once every journey.

Good thing about being on a motorbike is that the guy behind you can see when you turn round and give them the one fingered salute before accelerating away

Its all about balance though, and a little luck - lets face it most people break the speed limits at one time or other - even if its only 5/10 mph in a 60. I agree the limits in built up area's etc are important to follow, as at that speed it does make a difference if someone runs out infront of you and gets hit, I just have a hard time with the 50's and national speed limits on major roads, its like wtf is the point? practically no one follows them.

I think you will get 3 points and a fine maybe £150 they will be asking whos driving if there is more than one person insured on the car as they cant just send you a fine and give you points for you to say the wife was driving

I do the same i do the speed limit in 30 40 and 60 roads have dont 80 in a 70 though. And i love it when you get a twat sit right up your arse. I slow down to about 10 and when they try to go round me speed up. Insurance companies are less and less bothered about the smaller speeding offences now as most people accept, due to the UK police/government's obsession with putting their revenue collecting cameras anywhere and everywhere, it's going to happen to most of us sooner or later...

Don't get me wrong, I not here to say 'hey kids, speeding is cool' but in a lot of situations it's blown outta all proportion and is just being milked by a system intent on screwing UK drivers for every penny they can get.

Speed limits in the UK are crap, some are too high, others far too low...
Smaller roads near schools etc should be 20mph limits extra care warranted there but motorways should be 100 imo...

Glad I never got busted for speeding, as I'm mostly too fast. Ok, I do the allowed 50 (km/h) in towns and I really take care not to hit anyone, but once I'm out on the country, I love to go fast.

I mostly just go under 30 km/h too fast, caust at 31+ you loose your license for a month at least

EDIT: I think most speed limits are crap anyways, cause nobody cares if you go at 130 or 200 on the motorway, but the difference in safety distances is much more important and instead the police should focus on that. The roadhogs who push right behind you are the biggest shit ever and if I have one behind me, I'm inclined to slow down to the allowed speed just to enrage them

And on speeding i cant understand peoples attitudes its the Law live with it. People moan thet cameras are there to make money next thing you know killers will moan about being caugh by CCTV. I never speed any where with houses off the road its too easy for a kid to maybe run into the road the the differece between 30 and 40 has been made all to clear. I do think the motorways could do with being sped up but i think they need a minium speed limit too so we can get rid of these idiots doing 50 in the outside lane.

On a road just up from my house there was a man caught going 70 in a 40mph area; granted it wasn't a high danger area but still...

He complained in court that he couldn't see the speed camera as he came upto it. He got away with no fine, no points and the speed camera was later taken down. The whole system is stupid. Personally I think each speed camera SHOULD be hidden but the argument is that if you're caught, the moments just after being caught is when you're the least aware on the road as your mind is wondering about other things. So I guess having them near schools and such is a bad idea fullstop; they should just add more speedbumps.

I come up to a junction, some twat sat waiting to come out, talking on his mobile, looks the other way then just as I'm about to pass him he pulls out infront of me. was sure I was going over the bonnet but I was ready for it and stepped on the anchors in time, managed to get round the back of him.

Was so angry I had to stop on the side of the road and kick the shit out of a lamp post, I was fucking pissed lol.

They usually only ask who was driving the vehicle if it is registered as being owned by a company rather than a person.

The £1000 is the maximum fine you can receive if you fail to inform them who was driving , if you tell them who it was , the driver should only get a £60 fine and 3 points.
