Dont trust him further than I could throw him. How anyone could vote labour after the Blair years is beyond me. For a government that came in on a manifesto of cleaning up politics, revitalising education and health sectors they have done a bloody poor job.

More scandals than any post war government and done bugger all to improve life in the UK.

Yeah cos Thatcher was great wasnt she?
How about mass unemployment?
How about selling off all the profit making Nationalised Industries and Departments to pay fail a flawed and corrupt economic policy?
How about the education and health sectors being run down due to the incompetance of a Conservative government?
How about the transport infrastructure like trains, roads and buses being neglected all through her term?
How about the mining industry being shut down?
How about the steel industry being shut down?
How about the ship building industry being shut down?
All we got was yuppies in red bracers driving flash cars in return.

As for scandles ..... just dont.

If you didnt live through the Thatcher years dont fuckin moan about Labour.

Oh here we go .... it was because of the defense cuts imposed by Thatchers government that caused the Argies to believe they could take and hold the Falklands.
Thatchers government knew about the invasion plans and did nothing about it.
Thatcher didnt win the war ... the British Armed Forces did. At a cost of almost 300 lives by the way. They didnt win it for her they won it for their own personal pride and the fact that the Falkland Islanders wanted to stay British.
All she managed to do was allow a war to take place by her own incompetance and then leach of a victory won by others.

These people extolling the virtues of Thatcher make me laugh. That bitch and her cronies fucked the economy so badly in the late 1980's that my dad lost what was a thriving buisness and our family home because she took the economy through two periods of boom/bust in the space of a decade. 10%+ interest rates crippled our family company that had borrowed to invest in the buisness when interest rates were low, within two years we were bankrupt and homeless.

You can stick your Thatcher right up your arsehole! Not only did she shaft the working classes she also wiped out a generation of small buisnesses, the very people who put her in power. My dad was a lifelong Tory but till the day he died he always swore he would never give them his vote again. I will vote for anyone before that mob.

We're all entitled to vote for who we like. Labour, Tory, Lib Dem, Monster Raving Loony, BNP, whoever. What is it they say about politics. Its like religion. All comes down to personal choice & Belief. There's no right or wrong. Just personal choice.

If I wasn't so dog tired, I could probably support an intelligent discussion Labour v Tory. Another time.

Totally agree with cHodAX tbh, she was awful and never did a good thing for the country, she was, in my mind, someone showing how "a women does thing" as she had this big big axe to grind, saying she has balls is just making her sound something she really isn't.

To be honest, when you look at Politics... the voting papers, for me I never look at who is the best, but who is likely to deliver on even 10% of what they say.
Politicians will tell you whatever you want to hear, thats there job. If they said 30% or more of the population would be out of a job, that they can't help folding companys, local governments given more control to do less.... people wouldn't vote. The number of voters each year either not turning up or not voting for someone (tick other) is increasing all the time.

Blair was ok to start with, he had a plan, that plan changed when he suddenly realised he needed work after his Prime Minister, hence the american puppy move and saying yes to everything the US does.

I've not got much faith in Brown right now, but I don't think he wants to be anyones poodle.

I for one would never ever vote in Conservative, Lib Dem's are just a joke...

Whilst I appreciate your families situation, it must have been a knightmare. Thatcher inherited a country in turmoil that even owed the IMF 20 billion Pounds. Your probably not old enough to remember the miner strikes and the 'winter of discontent' but I do as a child and it was bad. many nights playing board games by candle light. Schools not open because the heating was not working. The Unions had far too much power back then and were not afraid to show it.

In retrospect I personally think the powers they took away from the unions went a bit too far. But it was needed to bring the UK kicking and screaming into the 21st centuary. We were an industrial power but that was not the future and luckily the government knew it and made the tough choices to change it. The UK is still a G7 member and its economy is based on the service industries.

The industrial working classes you mention would have been wiped out anyway by cheaper labour in the emerging countries of Eastern Europe and the Far East.

Much prefer:

Stand Down Margaret(Stand down please) - The Beat
Bring it Down (this insane thing) or The Power is Yours - Redskins
Or any number of songs by Billy Bragg.
