Odd how Google still has no suggestions other than guatemala when you type in Climategate?

To put this in context it seems every nonsense media fad gets onto google search terms within a few days so what gives?

There are over 5 million pages of results on climategate but for some reason Google seems to somehow not notice them :p

Biased? surely not :p

Edit - I find this rather sinister in a search engine - Google = Censorship.

Perhaps i've missed something but i'm not really seeing the issue here? Is it just that when you type climategate you don't get a nice suggestion in the search box? Because it seems that google aren't actually censoring or blocking any results to do with "climategate", unless the 32million results I got are a clever google ploy to decieve me.

Maybe I should be clearer - when some new nonsense comes along thats popular it quickly becomes a search term on Google - except in this case - that smacks of human intervention.

There also seemed to be some manipulation of the order of results during the early stages before it got too big to hide.

Hey, we are talking about a corporation here. They'll do whatever keeps legislators off their backs. Including censor Chineese dissidents.

Anyone who thinks it doesn't happen is a fool, but there's fuck all we can do about it and I could conceivably make myself sick by talking about it. (There's only two normal outcomes, anger or depression, and depression's the more likely of the two).

I am still not sure I understand...

I search for Climategate

I get a load of results regarding it, from Wikipedia to the BBC to Youtube to The Times, no suggestions for alternative spellings, are you sure you spelt it correctly?

What should I be getting and what's it got to do with guatemala?

Edit. Oh I see, you mean in the auto completion thingy which nobody ever uses!

Google will end up split up under anti-trust laws eventually - its just wayyy too powerfull and enjoys a massive monopoly power which it wields like a despot.

Fight teh Google!

I use Bing :p

Edit - oh and did you know Al Gore is a director at Google...

I think its more an indictment on Politicians n Lawmakers for not understanding the internet.

For some reason they dont treat it like any normal business situation - if a non internet based company was in Googles position they would be up to their neck in anti-trust suits but because it happens on that 'mysterious inter-thingy' they can get away with it...

Hmm - do you actually have a clue what this is about because this comment says you dont.

There was no report - theres a large number of emails and a smaller number of pdfs/excel sheets etc. etc.

No-one has actually done anything other than confirm the emails, docs etc.

Tbh -most of the quotes centred on the 'trick' email but there are many far more damning sections - I personally think that one was focused on because it is explainable (potentially) - a lot of the others dont leave wriggle room.

Personally my intrigue comes from the fiddling with the figures. I understand that sometimes to achieve a conclusion you have to use certain "tricks"

I don't understand how they can decide that recent tree rings can't be judged to be accurate yet older rings from before climate records began can still be considered a reliable source of data. It smacks of cluelessness and plain old idiocy.

Wow. This was about google, now it's about people who don't know much about science arguing about climate change? :(

Climategate has a lot to do with maths and the presentation of mathematical data rather than science actually.

Trust no-one - never base your views on one source - everyone has a bias.
