Yep, Aikido is excellent. Its derived from juijitsu (which I know something about, having studied & taught it for well over 20 yrs). And yes, I wear a black "skirt" too (but I have a black top instead of white due to my dan level)

They all suck, Muay Thai or Boxing is the only way forward for a striking martial art. Brazilian ju-jujitsu (Brazilian judo really0 for grappling of course, both of which are very fun and good exercise if you not into fighting as a sport.

Thought it was quite simple really, the answer is well, striking? So all types of striking? fights and sports competition, even punching and kicking a wall / your missus really?

People debated over Aikido, Karate and what not for decades then MMA and UFC came along .... And all the 100th degree black belts in Akido, wang-chung cock and what not got demolished by Grapples (Brazilian Ju-Jujitsu and Wrestling) and now it's a combination of striking (Muay Thai and Boxing) and grappling.

There is no Akido, Karate champions .... however street fighting is very different and I certainly wouldn't want to try and karate kick someone that is going to headbutt me ....

Give me a break, all those martial arts belong in the movies, watch the attacker, he's standing there like a melon waiting for the next move, real attackers move as fast as you and grab push, punch.
Judo is the best by far, it simply teaches using an attackers strength against them and unsettling their balance with simple moves, I studied for a few years and it has become second nature in situations to keep your balance at all costs and undermine theirs.
If the person is stronger and bigger than you, don't try to compete. let their grapples, punches follow through and use your strength to unbalance them, once their on the floor you can kick them in the head and run.
