The best thing to do is to buy a cheap book. I brought:
Larry Ullman - PHP for the World Wide Web and it has told me everything I need to know.
How to connect to databases and everything, a very good starter book. Cost about £15 I think, but well worth it.
There are two main PHP sites which have script downloads:

Why do you need money for PHP. It is an open source language so it is free. You can edit it in Notepad

VERY good book believe me. Get all your books from CompMan, big discounts every week and at least 20% of standard price anyway.
