I know that the best option is a usb-drive of some sort, btu is there a free, and relatively confidential/safe) place to store files online, with a good amount of space?

That's about it :p

Depends what "good amount of space" means. You'll get a free 2gb at www.dropbox.com and you can increase that amount by referring people.

dropbox is great! Everyone in my class uses it which makes it really easy to share files etc.

Ta all, those sizes will do nicely.

I used to just send myself stuff on gmail, but good to have backups all over the world when the zombie invasion comes :D

If you have Gmail, you also have Google Docs. Can upload all possible filetypes now, up to 1GB. So if that's all the room you need, you don't have to open a new account somewhere.
Just be sure to uncheck the "Convert to gDoc file if possible" to prevent having a google spreadsheet file, if you've uploaded an xls file.

Use Amazon S2 - it isn't free, but it costs next to nothing. Fast too.
