Looking at this digicam and as I know fuck all about them, was wondering whether it's a decent price or if I can get something better for cheaper? All I know is that Jessops is a good place to buy Cameras... apparently!

Well, it has optical zoom (much better than digital zoom) and 2 Megapixels (not the very top end, but not bad at all). The LCD display is important so you can review your piccies too.

Those are the details to look at and compare.

I bought the Canon Powershot S40 6 months ago for £500. It's a 4MP camera and is the dog's nads.

It looks a pretty good buy to me. 2Mb pixel is enough for most things, certainly for all web aplications, the images you get will be 1600x1200, perfect fro a high resolution desktop.

It is possible to print images that size at A4 size and have them look OK. Pro photographers will disagree, but most people would be happy.

Don't forget that the quality of the lens is just as important with digital cameras as normal film ones. I have no idea what the lens is on this camera, but I guess Olympus have a good enough rep not to worry too much in this case.

As Itcheh said ignore digital zoom, it means nothing. 3x optical zoom isn't loads but will give you a bit of flexibility in picture composition.

One last thing, buy another memory card. The techy bit on your link said max images 49, but that will be at lowest quality. You'll be looking at more like 8-10 on anything good quality. I have a 2Meg Nikon and thats what I can fit on an 8Mb card, and only 1 image at highest quality!

Oh and don't get the extra card from jessops, go somewhere like this instead.

I was givent he Kodak dx3600 for my b'day... it rocks... damm fine pics it produces. You can get it for about £199 quid.... does little video things too... bout 4 mins on a 64 meg card

We used to use an olympus at work, I was never that happy with it really, the kodak seems to have a higher picture quality...

just personal preference really

Honestly?

I would go for something with a better definition. Try ofr 3m pixels at least.

You can try www.price-guide.co.uk for comparison of the cameras.
