So, every night pretty much for the past 4-5 months, there has been a few dogs [and one dog inparticular] which loves to bark its fucking head off all night long.

Im talking from between the hours of 1am to anything to the crack of dawn in some cases. Its something you cant get used too, because the bastard will bark for about 10minutes on the trot, before going quiet for about 5minutes - then he starts all over again.

Been to bed just now, tried to get to sleep for about an hour but it is failing as per usual quite miserably. I have started to get even more insomnia from this dog where i end up not being able to sleep until around 5am or so.

The council has recieved apparently several complaints about this dog, but as i can plainly hear nothing is getting done about it. I listen for the vocal direction it is coming from, only to find it echoes quite badly meaning i dont know where it is coming from.

It gets bad on some nights because other dogs start to get in on the fray, meaning that night itself would be a royal clusterfuck of barking constantly. Im so tired now. God dammit. But i know im not going to get to sleep until earliest 3am or so

I would suggest,
a] Phoning the RSPCA.
Or
b] Getting a gun and going on a night hunt.

He's a scouser, so the dog in question is most likely a child eating pitbull. I would not suggest he try and hunt it.

Phoning the RSPCA will include sitting waiting on the premium rate line for 45 minutes while the calculate if they have fleeced you out of enough money yet.

They are gash!!

Record it and harass the council and the police until they do something about it.

Does it not count as some sort of public disturbance RE: Loud music?

shoot it, or alternatively shoot the owners and dump the dog on the rspca. Either is good...

The RSPCA won't be interested unless the dog is being abused or mistreated, which although leaving it out at night IMO is, they'll disagree.

If you report it to the council they should really do something about it since it does constitute noise pollution or whatever they want to label it.

I know my neighbours used to complain about my dog when he used to bark in the day, he was fine at night(he slept inside) but would bark when he was in the back garden and chav kids would sit at the fence pissing him off, the neighbours complained and we got some sort of bollocks letter about it, if we got one about a dog barking in the daytime then they should surely do something about it in the night when it really is a disturbance.

If you can I would suggest getting other people who live near you to write letters also - the more the better.

Go outside.

Listen to barking.

Locate dog via old "louder/closer" method.

Knock on door at daytime(or right then)

Wait for answer.

Apply Jeremy Clarkson Patented Tactic by shouting: "I've killed before!!"

Walk away.

Although funny all the ways people have suggested so far to deal with it, it's not the dogs fault it barks all night. It's the negligent owner. Think of the dog as a baby, if you heard it crying all night long for 5months would you go around and yell at it to shutup or would you talk to the parent about it?

It should be pretty easy to locate the owner if you go out at night and walk around with your ears pricked up. If other neighbours have already complained, talk to some you know and ask if they did to find out some more info about the circumstances. I wonder if Environmental Health can deal with it as it's a noise problem.

Theres a web-site here that might help you: Defra, UK - Environmental Protection - Noise - Neighbourhood issues

I really do wonder at people who talk about doing stuff like that to dogs. Some of it is in jest, and yes, this is a forum and practically nothing said here really has much substance to it, but just for one second, get a grip.

Like Nate said, dogs are reliant on thier owners and thier behaviour is heavily indicative of thier owner's treatment of them. Is anyone here seriously saying the dog should be put down for barking? If so I really do think you should get your fucking head examined.

Sure, have words with the owner, but remember the dog has little choice in the matter, if hes been shut out in the wrong place then of course its going to bark.

Its probably not even being particularly mistreated, just hasnt been trained properly and thinks that by barking it will get its own way. Just like a 5 year old. Are you going to suggest putting a 5 year old down if it was screaming in a supermarket? of course not, this is basically the same but causing more of a disturbance because of the time/location/setting.

I've seen whats left of a dog after people strapped fireworks to it & set them off, it happened locally, how the fuck can a dog ever deserve that? IMO people who go around talking about about putting animals down for the slightest problem need thier fucking heads checking. The people who go around hurting them deserve something far, far worse.

Seriously, get a fucking grip.

EDIT: BTW Gray this isnt directed at you, you've got a valid issue here, I understand that and really do hope you get it sorted.

Sorry if that came over a bit angry, but seeing that isnt something I'll forget, I just dont see how there can be humour in doing something like that at all.

I'd never want any of that to happen to any of my pets, but I'm sure all of the one liners were said in jest. I'm not sure what I'd do to someone I found strapping a firework to a dog, it wouldn't be pretty though.
