I think this was a fun quest tbh. Must admit i had a peak at the german translation, but it didnt help alot since i dont know german..
Still i managed to fit in 1 word in each paragraph that i assumed would appear in the deciphered text, and from there i got the whole text in english. Finished the quest way too late to win anything, but still had fun (had no desire to go to Las Vegas anyway).
Thx GoA for giving my brain a little exercise :)

I dont think its fair to have a walkthrough, as there were many people who was trying it spending many hours in the other steps. And now people who was trying uncode cipher without any tip or walkthrough and couldnt, they now havent any reward, I hope first people finished it was any people who was doing this quest using fair way, playing in excal/prydwen server :(

I agree, noone should in fair mind have put any walkthru on the net, for others to see. Not only is it cheating ones way to (maybe) win something that would (maybe) have gone to another person, would it not have been there. So infact you are rewarded for scouting forums (and google) instead of using your brain to solve that enigma. A fact I resent tbh, both in the spirit of the event and the people who fairly tried to solve this, and not ever thought of looking for it on the net.

To be fair though, the difficulty of this quest was quite insane. Perhaps if it wasn't so hard then people wouldn't have to rely on foreign forums/wikis to get the answers. GOA also could've made the quest more variable so two players don't get the same path, or coded a different quest for each server so it wasn't so trivial to get the instructions.

Personally I would've preferred a medium to hard quest which the vast majority of people could complete with some help, with all those completing the quest being entered into a prize draw. It would offer anyone who bothered to take the time to compete the quest a chance, instead of it being the players who can get the information from somewhere else in the fastest time.

A small request to GOA though: more competitions would be nice. I wouldn't mind if the prizes were as simple as shirts, keyrings, a free copy of the next expansion, etc.

I suggest we boycot this and demand a new contest? This is hardly a competition when they give the french guys an easier time.

Exactly because it was so insane, it should still not have been put on the net... some people actually solved the 11'th without help from the german wiki, and/or FH forums, and they were not rewarded for theyre efforts, when some mins/hrs later it was for all to see on the net. Imagine having solved it after hrs of grumbling just to realize it has been on the net all along and people are ahead of you. Being a that only a small amount of people solved it could infact be what mythic wanted, with 11 prizes. So instead of the cunningest, smartest and luckiest person, they got the -fastest, internet scouting, who could read german, or simply find the FH post first, -person.

I do agree that there could be a change of concept, so another quest could be maybe easier and the completion could be a lotto. But this was not the case here, and I found the difficulty fun, and it greatly disappointed me, to find the answer on the net :(

Agree with the; more competitions part :)

To be honest, I didn't like the fact that it was turned into a multi-step quest. It gives an unfair advantage to some people who can spend more time.

I consider last year's contest (The lotto dude) to be a lot more fair.

Congratulations to the people who managed to chew their way though the quest in such short time, though. :)
Same for me, this quest required time and a lot of decoding, for a game aimed at players 12+, not everyone got a fair chance at it, and a huge portion of hte playerbase thought "screw this".

A race or a lotto would have been better, and would have given a fairer chance for average people to win.

GRATZ to whoever won it tho, well deserved.

Think the quest was aimed at 18+ though, you won't get any reward (except the statue maybe) if you're younger.

Completely agree and I suspect that the walkthroughs were mostly put online to 1. Gloat "look look I pwn I solved it already and you n00bs need me to help you" and 2. To annoy GOA because now a lot of players will just bimble through what was supposed to be one of the hardest quests ever.

1st: yep i fakking pwn. im better than all others.

2nd: i wrote the walkthrough coz its a quest with buggd keywords and u have to have to knowledge of the french language to solve step 11. imo probably 1 of 100 could solve this quest alone without any help. look at the german and french forum. all helped each other to solve the quest. i just gathered the informations and wrote all of it in 1 post. so if u have a problem with not winning the first price, its your problem.

1st: Not in my book.

2nd: On the german servers, yeah, because "Y" isnt a vowel there. But infact in english it WAS solved without help (just see uber :worthy: audhild's post)... Still comes down to who saw it first on the net, and not who deserved it.

My view on this quest is that it was in general bad you actually needed to go outside the game to find clues to the quest steps.

I mean, you had to look up the Records of Midgard/Ablion/Hibernia on the Library pages of http://daoc.goa.com pages, and look in the document "Who were the Sobekites ?" to really understand and find any information about a four-pointed star medallion, and to learn that "as we can see with this specimen met in Oceanus Anatole" = Kompos.

Otherwise, I think it was just pure luck that some found the location of the origin of the Ancient Medallion.

IF the quest had been more like a race to 1. "go to <name of npc> to buy your necessary adventure gear", then next step "go to the island in meso, stand in the middle of the three stonepillar to find what is hidden in the dirt"... I really would have loved doing this quest.

This was waaaaaay to cryptic for my pleasure, and finding the spot with the three stones of the children of sereb that ate eachother was just silly... I searched for hours for that one! (with skald speed and perm-sprint from shammy!)

Anyway, congratz to the ones that finished the quests first. I think I spent like 20 hours on the crap and I didnt manage to get pass step #11...

Have you guys really got nothing better to do than arguing about someone posting a spoiler, entitled as such, on a forum? If you dont want to read it... dont, you have the choice.

I dont know why you are calling it an argument, im clearly stating my point of view, not slagging anyone off(much) or asking people if they have anything better to do, than fx (arguing about someone posting a spoiler, entitled as such...) posting pointless spoilers... "Discussing" it, is what I have thought ive been doing, and its not against any rules. Making the poster or anyone else think about the subject in hand, by posting my oppinion, isnt either... I had already gone through the quest when I read the spoiler here, I knew what to expect and I actually had nothing better to do than to state my oppinion on FH at that time.

It gives you a choice to read the goa quest spoiler, and its obvious from the title. In that you are correct. That is also exactly the point of the disuccsion, it shouldnt even be possible to have that choice in the first place, in my oppinion.

The quest have been solved and completed a long time ago now, so I mind less and less this post, but still the principle.

If infact there had been a typo fault for more than german(English), I could see a reason to give out help on step #11.
But there were not. So the poster have either misunderstood gravely the reason for why he posted the spoiler to the entire goa quest on an egnlish forum, well before it had been solved on all servers, or some other reason. He gave two reasons himself...

He was beeing ironic.

Maybe he was being that, but why post a post with one ironic line, and another sincere? How can I know that he means what he writes?
If he was being ironic... my apologies... if on the other hand that was the acutal reason, then I stand by what I wrote.

Its the internet, people can do whatever the fuck they want. I've seen shit eating websites... I may not necessarily agree with them but they are there and theres nothing you can do about it.

Maybe you should listen to your own advice then? If people can do whatever the fuck they want then surely people can whine about what someone else posted?
