The option to use IMAP appeared a while ago so I swapped over to it. I'm now able to access my "spam" folder so tonight I decide I'll have a clear out.
In Outlook 2003 I select an email in the folder and it automatically moves it to the trash. Quite handy really I thought.

So I set it there working it's way through merrily routing out anything that's not 100% spam (newsletters etc) only to come back and find a message that IMAP's no available.

So I log into my gmail account using firefox and find in the settings tab where it once said Forwarding and POP/IMAP, it now just says Forwarding and POP.

Is this cos it thinks I was spamming the server getting my client to auto-move all these messages (nearly 600 in total) and has blocked me or has Google switched it off for everyone?

Kenny, check that you've got the language set to American English, rather than British. Google suck at internationalisation, so newer features tend only to be available when you're in the US translation.

And @ Shovel: I already thought of that. I know when they first introduced IMAP is was US only and you could get around it by changing your location. I think I've been locked out in some way. Can't seem to find much/anything about it on google.


EDIT: Seems it's back up. Eventually found a thread on it and it looks like it was a temporary thing. I thought I'd broken gmail.

You're right, it was a service-wide issue, not something you did (I hope!). I guess there's a reason for its 'Beta' tag
