So the warmest year was a decade ago and the forecasts are that this year will be cooler than any since 2000.

Since 1998 there has been no increase in global temperature - if the warming up to 1998 had continued we would be about 0.3 C warmer than we are now so what happened?

If we look at the data we have about 20 years of really interesting warming up till 98 then it stops - if we look further back the warming comes straight after a number of cold years.

So what we have now is a stable temperature which is indeed warmer than the start of the century but is no longer increasing.

If we look back at the last few centuries we can see that up till the early 1800's we were in a prolonged cold period dubbed 'the little ice age' - ever since then the temperature has risen overall but with variations over the decades where we might have a decade or two of cold or warm but the general trend was a thawing out from the cold period.

Now a stable warmer temperature is still having an effect - thus we see pictures of ice breaking up etc. but what we dont have is global warming - odd eh?

Isn't this "cooler" period due to the effects of el nina?

Anyway, if indeed we're not global warming and now global cooling, i'm sure the fucktarted labour party will introduce a "cold tax" on the easy picking motorist for all owners of cars who's engines run cold for 10 minutes as an attempt to curb global cooling. Wankers.

Sample size is tiny, and basically even over 100 years meaningless.

Think they got a bit bored of global warming, decided they can't really tax it anymore so are trying to find the next fad to tax.

Yes thats the flaw with the whole thing - if you have 20 years of warming then it stops what exactly does it signify?

I know el nino and la nina have effected things in the last decade but the same is true of the decade before - a lot of the hottest years coincided with big el nino phenomena so how can they use these as proof of human caused global warming?

I think its extremely strange that no-one seems to have noticed that we have passed the peak of change and have now plateu'd - perhaps its just not fashionable?

To be fair, we are polluting our environment and damaging it badly, we are harming our oceans and our agricultural land. I dont think this has much to do with global warming though.

Or not accepted groupthink by the eco-fundamentalists/watermelons.

The other thing is, the human mind is conditioned to accept short term outcomes as the long term effects. For example, people who go to a casino without know much...win the first night or two at roullette....for the rest of their lives "I'm good at roullette"....

Its because we are mentally hardwired for pattern recognition - alas this works even where things are random thus the many superstitions about lucky boots/underwear etc. etc.
