Glasses noo!

Seeing these prices is making me get a bit scared.

I'm having similar problems atm, I can't read roads signs clearly at a distance of 10m or greater, the text is too blurred to make out.

I need an eye test it seems but if I need them im not gonna be happy spending a 3 digit number of cash on glasses damn it!

I think I'd look rather spiffy with glasses though...

I've been thinking about laser surgery on my eyes for years. The only thing I'm worried about is the night time sparkle you can get from the lasering. I know the wafefront stuff reduces that but my night vision's shit to start with.

what is this wavefront thing? a different way of doing the pattern?

Wavefront is an astronomical thing, originally, it's a way to compensate for imperfections in a lens (i.e. a telescope, your eye) to get a more perfect image. Basically before they correct your sight with a laser, they correct the imperfections due to the surface of your eye not being a perfect (which no-ones eye is).

The way to compare it is this, without wavefront they are correcting based on your prescription, with wavefront they are correcting based on the actual imperfections they've mapped in your eye! It's much more accurate, and has better results (increased chances of better than 20/20 vision, dunno what it is in metric, 6/6 or something), and night vision is better.

Kenny, if you're night vision is already shit, it can't get much worse!

Anyway, 'haloing' is only really a problem if you have large pupils (if the pupil expands past the laser correction when it's dark, you'll get the halos), they'll tell you this during the consultation (as it's one of the *many* things they measure, gawd the number of different eye tests I had to have!), and if you do then they have to laser a larger area, which means they can only correct a smaller prescription (otherwise they may laser too much cornea off, and bugger up your eye). I didn't get any night vision problems, and my night vision is pretty good.

As for the money, most of the companies do credit (which is what I did).

Think the big thing putting me off tho is the fact I can leave my contact lenses in for 30 days at a time before they need changing. Just forget about them most of the time and they give me good enough eyesight for now.

One thing I have to say, is that it really isn't that big a thing. The actual process of lasering an eye takes about a minute each eye (and that was with me squirming a bit). It's really not something to be scared about!

Anyone worrying about the time, don't be. she was in and out of the procedure in no more than 10 minutes start to finish.

Laser surgery ftw \o/ I had it done three years ago and my eyes are 20/20 now. None of the reported side effects either (in fact my night vision improved as well). Feels like hot gravel's been thrown in your eyeballs for a couple of hours after, but then its fine.

Having said all that, a friend of my ex had it done at Moorfields, one of the most respected eye hospitals in the world, and it was a complete fuck up. She's had to have more procedures to get her eyes back to where they were before.

Im 27 and got my first glasses 9 months ago, had perfect eyesight up until about 3 years ago when it started to get worse. I decided i needed to do something about it when i had trouble reading street name signs from across the streets etc. Im nearsighted so i dont have to use my glasses at the computer or when i read (not wearing them now), although i sometimes do anyway if i look up and down alot anyway etc. At first i hated the idea of having to to wear them, felt like something was taken away from me (always taken pride in my perfect sight and hearing before etc), but after a while i started not thinking much about it, and it was nice seeing things more than an armslenght away in sharp focus again. Now the glasses have started to feel like part of my identity, only time they bother me is when i want to lie down and read and support my head with my hand, or when i need to wear something over my head like a helmet or a warm cap or such. I also dont wear them when im out running. Thinking of getting contacts for running and other sports actually. Will probably get a Lasek treatment when i can afford it (about 3.000 euro here in sweden). My frames are Peak Performance.

Got my glasses today, they dont seem all that bad looking.

I went all gozzy-eyed when i took em off to begin with, weird shit. If i looked to my left/right everything went fuzzy slightly while driving, but then it seemed to correct itself, guess its just going to take a bit of time to get used to them im assuming.

Very snazzy mate. How long did it take you to get them, from the opticians appointment to collecting the glasses? I need a new pair but I need them quite urgently so I don't know whether it's worth inquiring if I won't be around to collect a new pair.

Mine go dark in the sun. People always think I've changed pair when they weren't looking. Quite handy, but a bit annoying when you're in a well lit area and they turn tinted. People think you're one of those ponces that wear sunglasses indoors!

Well I've got an appointment on monday because mine aren't strong enough anymore, so hopefully they won't take too long as I'm going to Australia on the 29th. I guess they can just give me my prescription to take to another opticians though or something.
