Right, driving question.

Today i was asked, why is the "Give Way" sign, upsidedown compared to many of the other Warning signs [Roadworks, Rundabout etc]

I have checked Google, but ive come up fruitless in my search.Highway cod doesnt say anything either

WHYYYY?

I assume it is because the word 'Give' is longer than the word 'Way'...?

other signs are normally a caution.

give way is more of an instruction.

though anattic has a valid point

I would go with this reason.
Its not a warning sign...and is therefore upside down triangle.

Because it can be recognised when covered in snow. Same as a STOP sign. They are the only signs that are like this.

Sounds like a plausible reason, even if it's not right, it should be. ;)

Nope, it is the real reason. They are the only signs like this, since when obscured their absence can be extremely dangerous.

I said the exact same thing, but it seems it wasnt that :p

i did mention it coming towards like the end of the road, guess i didnt word it right

I was wondering what you meant by recognised in snow... but thinking about it, if theyre unique styles of Warning signs it could mean that in dense conditions.. hmm

So can chevron signs...but they are not a funny shape...

tbh if you need a chevron sign to tell you that a corner is dangerous.....

What I mean is that their shape is unique. Since not obeying a give way or STOP sign can result in a very serious accident the shapes of these signs are unique so that even when obscured by snow, dirt, trees, or even defaced, you will always know exactly what the sign means, and you are still able to obey the instruction.

Next time it snows, just look at the metal signs. Snow nearly always sticks to them.
