It's not really DAOC that's the problem, it's women and their built in abilty to moan about EVERYTHING!

Think of how many things your GF moans about where as in the same situation you wouldn't dream of complaining.

Would you ever say to the chick..

'You scruffy twat'
'That looks fuckin stupid I'm not going out with you dressed like that'
'That hobby of yours is sad, why don't you get a life'
We're going to my mothers and thats the end of that'
'Getoff you dirty get, all you think about is sex'

No you wouldnt , would you.

It's a cultural thing, chicks moan, men put up with it to keep the peace and keep getting laid.

lmao some of those coments i do say to my gf. my gf is quiet cool and i regular take the piss out of her calling her a nympho or a knobhead etc etc. she just laughs slaps me and calls me a names back :)

Well..then again...what is life?

Playing games is life as much as going to the gym or even having a girlfriend.

To each their own.

You've been married eight years and you have to ask questions like that...this concerns me somewhat.

Nah bud , I'm on about the current girlfriend of 5 months bud :)
Found the perfect antidote atm.... Boring tennis what she loves, guess I'm ok till Wimbeldon done lol ;)
Also started asking her like a little kid if I'm allowed.....which she immediatly replies of course you are don't take the piss :)
I would get rid of her and find a DoaC lass, but she's great in the sack, a good cleaner and I wub her! :)

You play games, you enjoy playing games. It's a part of who you are and that will never change, years ago when gaming was a fairly niche activity I can understand the attitude of a lot of women, however, nowadays that is out of date.

A relationship is often about compromise but you shouldn`t feel bad about doing what you enjoy (unless it`s killing babies or something). I met a girl who was open minded enough to look at what I did and understand that I will always be playing games and nothing she could do would change that, sure I reduced the amount I played as part of the compromise but I wouldn`t give it up and she understands that would be an unfair thing to ask.

After a while she decided to try a couple of games and low and behold enjoyed it! Been married for 2 years and together for nearly 6 now and never argue about playing on the PC.
Yeah but Naetha plays more than you :)

when i 1st moved in with my gf .. i stressed it to her.. at times i like to have some "me" Time .. where i can do summin on my own and not have the hassle of her or kids on my back. and during that "me" time i play daoc... altho not all time soemtimes i might go upstairs n watch a film ive downloaded.. or piss about surfing the net. but because we spoke about it early in our relationship she understaands that everybody needs some time to themselves sometimes. hence our relationship with my gf and daoc is pretty much solid.

This is simular to what I get up too, whist i dont live with mine, we have what we call a days off ( not too such wheather she likes this name or not) so Tuesdays and Thurdays I dont see her and therefore get some quality DAOC time in.

The important thing is to have ur MSN to show ur offline so you dont get disturbed in a middle of a dragon raid.

If you have to sacrifice your own identity to be in a relationship then the relationship isnt worth it. Couple hours each day, or every couple days, of "alone-time" when you spend the rest of your time together shouldnt be too much to ask really.

Though you have to make comprimises just like every relationship haha :) Think i only pissed her off once from playing daoc, was after a nite of passion etc blah blah, then i turned on daoc to show up for a ml raid :m00: she gave me the cold shoulder all nite in bed that nite, took a bit of effort to make her forgive me for tht :D

Well my girlfriend of 2 years didnt know i played DAoC until a few months back. I knew she'd always thought paying to play a game, and spending that much time on it was silly. She take the piss outta one of her mates whom has a bf who spends ALL day on his computer, from when he gets up to when he goes to bed. He has no job, no friends and they have no social life.

So i was considerably worried when it came to telling her i played. Sounds bad doesnt it really :eek7: Anyway, i told her and she was like, oh. I was really concerned she'd think less of me for playing games. I think a lot of perceptions are that playing games is childish or silly hobby, a bit goonish.

However, unlike my gfs m8. I have a job as well as being a student so cant spend too much time on the game. We go out regularly as a couple to the cinema and like eating out, go to friends houses, watch films together.

I think as long as my playing the game doesnt compromise our time together then it's fine. That said, when she's watching Big Brother :puke: i can play this :)

i think because daoc is so addictive and you need to be on at least an hour at a time (and a good grp is rare so if you get one your staying put for the duration) this is what gf's dont get (i didnt) i used to get really pissy when it was a lovely sunny day and the weekend and all my bf did was sit at the pc the whole time it was rather hurtful thinking the pc was more fun than me.

anyway i was sick of him playing all the time and he asked if i wanted a char to play on..... Ezlai was born and from then on in it was him laying on the bed going "aw ffs get off the pc you been on 13 hours now!!".

anyhoo daoc IS only a game and my bf is more important to me than any hobby i have, i know loads of people who lost relationships from the game (they obviously wernt working brilliantly if they were destroyed by this) and i'd rather have him home with me playing the pc than out down the pub getting shitfaced everynight and blowing our life savings on drink and wimmin!

really it just comes down to this though, if your gf/bf is worth it you will choose them over anything anytime.

Quite a lot of wise things are said really, i think one key thing is:

Women will always try to change men, but often they are actually more happy if you resist the easy patch of actually changing, becuase they want some opposition..

i handled it with sitting down and talking to the missy , about hobbies , my hobby is my computer + games , her's is maybe watching boring soap operas , well while you watch your boring soap operas i'll play games , since that is what i like to do , if you get a negative response from that , ask her what she wan't of you that is so demanding that you can't relax with your hobby.

if everything fail's and she just doesn't wan't you to have a hobby , find a new gf , there are plenty to pick from that actually respect you for having a hobby.

really true. my ex always, ALWAYS found something for me to do JUST when i sat down to relax a couple of hours. it never mattered if i asked her if she needed help with anything before i went to the PC, the second my arse touched the seat she screamed for something she needed help with.

and it never really helped to explain why i had games as a hobby and not some silly sport. so we gently told eachother to fuck off in the end.

My last gf though daoc looked fun, just didnt have the time to play, she tolerated it, I didn't mind her going out/having her hobbies.
Ballance and communication is the key.
You have to have a balance between gaming and doing other things, especially being with your gf. You also have to communicate with her, when these times are, and how you respect her interests so hopefully she comes to respect yours.

She only went out with you because she thought you was prince William :touch:

Quoted for truth! That's something else I don't understand either, why do women/men go out with someone, or marry them, and then try and change them into something else?!

Weird creatures human beings.

imo its stupid to have a gf and set dates to see or not to see each other.

meh, what do i know about living with a female, havnt for a looong time, wont for a looong time. if all fails, compare daoc to footie, you pay to play both and spend time getting better, cept this can be practiced whenever :p

Anyone that would think less of someone for playing games is a shallow and unintersting person to be honest

Another one that bemuses me is people that play this game when they have kids (younger ones, ie ~2 years old). If I was playing a game instead of spending that time with kids, I'd feel like I was a bad father.

That's just me though, ofc.

Well I do not agree with that, tbh and I can explain why. My father has a hobby which is called working in the house and redoing antiquaries. It's time consuming, sure, but he likes it. So when I was a young boy I sometimes enjoyed watching him do some stuff. I played lots with LEGO stuff aswell (yeah, TEH nostalgy is coming up now =)) ), which was at the time my hobby so to speak. My dad was not really there all the time, but he was around, which was cool and I got my fair share from him aswell, was some nice times.

So adopting this to nowadays, I'd say that DAoC +kids depends on the attitude you have. If the game winds you up and stuff, then it's wrong. But if your kids actually see that you're having fun with it BUT you still spend time with the family, they will be ok with it.

Everyone in my family has different hobbies, still my bro and I always got enough time/love from the parents. The big thing here is balance and as long as the game doesn't take time of your father role, it's ok. Kids will not want to spend 100% of the time with their parents, they want their free time aswell, so that's when you can play without any problem.

Another thing. Young kids go to bed early, gives you time to play aswell. When they get older, they might even start playing themselves. I know parents which play LAN games with their kids. Sure, it's a new way of spending time with the kids, but if your kids are actually enjoying it and see that you care for them, it's gonna make them feel good aswell. The only difference to "classic" games is, that you need to make sure that the communication is alright, so why not put the computers in the same room. For instance I can say that there's nothing like playing Heroes of Might & Magic together on one comp. Leaves lots of time to chat and have fun and still play some nice game.

That's my opinion on the topic and I think I'd try to handle it like that if I had children myself.

No dude I did'nt say I put a game in front of her I'm trying to intergrate the both together, my main reason for posting this was to see how other people work round this and how other people partners accept there hobbies etc.

Not to be told there is something wrong with me and to go see someone......er wtf????:wanker:

danny boy, does she live with you? (the answer to this should be no btw cos you only been together like 5 months or something) if she doesnt live with you just play when shes not there and if shes always there but doesnt live there and moans about you playing just suggest that she goes home and does some of her shit so you can do yours then you can both have fun together when you next see her.

tbh set some ground rules here man, 1 dont like neglect her or anything horrid like that, let her know yes she means a lot to you but you need your own hobbys etc.

and 2 dont become pussy whipped, under any circumstances (sounds like fun, but the reality is worse than the fantasy as it does not involve doing something exotic with a leather toy from ann summers and the mystic clam) put it to her like this "how would you feel if i told you what you can and cant do?" tbh she'd be fucking mortified for some reason some people see it as ok when they tell folk how to act but when you reverse it they suddenly get all uppity.

just try and find something that works for you both a nice little compromise without either of you feeling hard done by, if that doesnt work offer her this soloution

"hay babe how about i replace daoc with swinging... i hear theres some rampant partners to be had at shady acres nursing home... they need more young women too and i know you want us to do things together" *insert cheesy grin*

anyhoo at the end of it all theres just this dont let a game ruin the relationship.

Hey hun, er she does live with me as we moved in together but known her 10 years, but would have to pm you the details to explain that :p
She does'nt exactly lay the law down as such but as many peeps said here they just get mardy cos of the computer game, I've cut my playtimes down dramatically and we do allsorts together but I guess I'm used to my own space a bit sometimes, it's not a major problem and just wondered if others had this little problem. If she sulks again when I'm on 2 hours I'll ban her from the TV, hide her fitness dvds and weights and change her into one of those massive 40 stone bed-ridden women on those Feeder programs :) <joking>
Oh and would'nt dare put the swinging thing to her as she is as mad as me and may say yes ;)
