How about getting him something to remind him of some good times you had when your group of(?) friends were doing things together? I rather wish I had some keepsakes of my friends in high school. I did something similar when my sisters (the twins) turned 21, and I think it worked out well.

i wasnt even there when it got booked. everyone booked it, phoned me later and asked if i wanted to come. ofc i had no choice by this point. the next day i was applying for a bank loan and three weeks later i was paying for the holiday
