....

I spared all the greys in one DF group today. I was happy in the fact that by doing so they had no chance of making it out of DF alive :)...... but then im a nasty bastard when it comes to killing middies...

Respect to that grey con that attacked me last night (while his friend stood and watched hehe), you had a lucky escape ;)

Of course it was a bloody buffbot. When was the last time you saw anyone try RvR with a sub 40 shaman in Emain? ;)

> Death to buffbots!

All praise and sacrifce to buffbots, the pillar of strenth as well as dexterity of Midgard!

Ya know what.. Tried a bit of slumming on Excalibur alb/hib awhile back. Crazy place. People run to people, yelling - ”buff me!” And people buff! Never ever happening in Midgard, even at low levels. Two exceptions - shammies asking for PoX and blades asking for str buff during sieges. Given the relatively low numbers of buff-capable chars, the only way we are likely to get buffed is to have bots. Every single concentration point is precious! You think if we had half the bloody realm playing seers, anyone would bother levelling and managing a second char in parallel to one’s main?

> Seems like an army of buffbots hiding in mpk.

At one point I counted 7 at MPK.

> We usually let single grey/greens pass

Aye, those viciously mutilated bodies of lowbie mids I regularly run past on my way from MPK to MMG must be all victims of cliff beetles then..

Really? I thought you dinged your 50 in DF? And what about our hunters? Don't they go to the Bone Oracle stones in their mid 40's? And the UD (undead camp)? Lots of people XP there.

And Cruachon Gorge? The ants? The Rats? The Setts?

What about the Ellyll in the Penines/Snowdonia? Or the hollow men?

Damn...must be imagining things... ;)

> And Cruachon Gorge? The ants? The Rats? The Setts?

Is pretty dead. Been checking it out now and then. During the whole retail, I have bagged one single sad greycon at ants (who then logged on as mid on a friends account and procceeded to inform me of his oppinions about my ancestry and personal habits). Never seen anyone at setts. Usually a few lowbies soloing right out of Liegen and perhaps people gathering for a trip to Emain. Otherwise, Cruachan seems pretty dead. I wish it wasn’t.

Not that I’ve been visiting Sauvage and Snowdonia that much but they seem rather empty too. The only frontier zone pretty much always having expers in it is Yggdra.

> can all ppl tell me on who's deathlist i am,

Don’t flatter yerself. The only list you are likely to make is people’s ignore list, when you stop being amusing and start being annoying.

If you are in the frontier and a member of the enemy realm you will get ganked. It is that simple.

Easy. Grey equates into a level 1-36 player for a 50; ie there's a potential for decent RP (lv 30+ gives 200+ easily) without risk. Suffice to say, you kill :)

I'd not repeatedly rez kill the same guy over and over though if it wasn't in a raid situation.

At what lvl do players start being worth RP's? Or does it relate to your realm level?

Also with repeated rezz killing are the rp's that are gained affected?

Also does the lvl differnces between the 2 players make a difference to the RP gained?

Hehehe sorry for all the questions :D

If you can rezkill someone over and over I suggest you find the rezzer and fix that problem :)

Shu Ayala:
People gank greycons because,
1) Even greycons are the enemy
2) They can
3) They might be worth a few rps
4) It might bring out the big guys
5) It hurts the enemy realm
6) They know they can expect a big whine thread on the board and have fun
7) and so on

To people complaining about getting ganked:
I'm level 43 and me and my group got steamrollered yesterday by the biggest Alb zerg I have ever seen so far. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 100 of them. I couldn't make an accurate headcount of course since the encounter was over in 0.5 seconds. That's not fair! We had no chance boohoo. We were xping in peace and still the lame as Albions ganked us. Boohoo *sniffles*. Purple vs Greycons or Zerg vs Single group, what's the friggin difference? I don't whine about it. High levels (even level 50s) get ganked in situation where there's not a sodding thing they can do about it. If you can't handle it go play minesweeper.

Level for sure, but I think realm rank is a part of it too.

Yes. Newly rezzed people are not worth much or anything afaik.

Also does the lvl differnces between the 2 players make a difference to the RP gained?

I don't think so. How much rps you are worth has nothing to do with the level of the other person. You are worth a number of rps end of story.

> oh....err... yeah thanks - very informative of you.....

Ok, if you prefer the same thing in more words, here comes..

I thought I already explained what the main ”reason” is.. People are out there to kill the enemy. Im quite certain greycons never are the primary target of anybody. More equal opponents are preferred. If there happens to be no such targets nearby, greycons are the next best thing. Attacking a greycon while there is a higher con viable target nearby is a tactical nonsense anyhow (unless the greycon is of healing class and the other one is not).

The basic mistake you make here is assuming there has to be a reason for killing greycons in the first place besides a) you being from enemy realm and b) the fact thay we can kill you. Those two are quite sufficient.

We kill you not because of your couple of rp’s but simply because you made the mistake of picking the wrong realm when you rolled your first character ;) In other words - you are an enemy. DAoC is much more of a wargame than it is a roleplaying one.

Considering this, its is now YOU who must provide counter argumentation why we should NOT kill you. So far I ain’t seen much in a way of such arguments. The fact that you find death annoying does not qualify as it has no relevance to the person doing the killing. So, where are the arguments from your side?

Ok, to spare you from overstraining I can perhaps help you out a bit.

1. Not killing greys might cause the other side to think twice before doing the same to you and your realm mates. Some people feel it matters, some people feel it doesn’t. You’ll always get both kinds of people from all three sides.

2. Killing a greycon will reveal your present location and con to the enemy, so if you don’t announce your presence and the greycon hasn’t seen you yet, it is best to let him live. Pretty situational and as such does not qualify as a basis for general policy.

3. To some, emoting with a harmless enemy might be more fun than killing him outright. Again, relevant only to some people.

Feel free to add to that list.

And again, if killing greys is ”against your religion”, the only thing you can do about is to choose to not do it yourself. There are things not specifically prohibited by CoC that most people don’t do even to the enemy (causing exp deaths, when possible). Similarly, many avoid killing low con enemies. But again, this is not something that one is in right to EXPECT FROM OTHERS.

> Is lowbie ganking just to make sure that lowbies are out of the way

Not quite but there is a reason pretty much like the one you stated above - regardless of con, enemy player can provide information to his mates of your loc, movements and strength. If a code would be implemented that prevented killing low con enemies, the possibilities of using lowbies to spy and harrass the enemy would be numerous. Excample? Planting an unkillable lvl 1 char on milegates to keep the doors open so that stealthers can get through, while reporting the strength and class composition of enemy behind the milegate. Or planting the same unkillable lvl 1 chars near enemy portal keeps or milegates to give warning in case of raids. If such a thing went into the game, the frontier zones would swarm with lowbie spies.

Also, the atmosphere of three realms at war would suffer, if it became possible to run invincible lowbie characters amongs a pack of enemies who cant do much about it. Was actually one of Mythic’s wise decisions to not have a con limit on who one can kill.

True... 2 nights ago at MMG a ptm-healer started chasing a ptm alb. The alb was running around in circle. I joined in helping the skald (figuring my pinpricks would unnerve the alb even more).

When he saw he could not shake us, the poor bloke just sat down (with still 50% hp left at least) and let us bash at him.

The 2 of us against a seated ennemy, it still took a good dozen hits to finish him off. Though he was high power he was overrun and died gracefully.

(I wish I remembered the names :(. Particularly the name of that Alb, I would like to ask him why, since he was doomed already, he did not at least try and fight me as I wear paper armour and he would have had time to take me down before dying)

if you`re going to whine about this kinda stuff can it at least be:

"4million greys got ganked in DF where were all the high levels who are supposed to be looking after us?!"

don`t blame the ganker blame the non ganker killers

If grey cons don't want to get ganked, they should keep out of the fights of the 'big' guys.

Had some real nice fights with some high level infils in DF on Alb side. This kind of fights when none gets off a succesful PA and then it's hit-evade-evade-hit-hit-evade.. etc.
Those fights are a real thrill, great fun... until the §$%ing GREY cons show up and interfere.
If they don't want to RvR ... don't interfere. If they do interfere, expect to get killed.

Just don't whine. Useless anyway :p

Yay!!!!!!!!! Thanks Ottar - thats more what I've been looking for :D - and thanks to any others who actually tried explaining to my slow lowbie brain.

I first 'whined' (as you lot would call it) about being ganked in another thread - when I was ganked in DF.

I understood all the reasonings about it being an RvR zone... blah blah yeah I know....

But what was bothering me was the fact that if the only reason that greys were being killed was becuase poeple were bored and it was just summat funny to do.... then I wouldnt be happy... as you can imagine!

Why it has taken so long for someone (even if it isnt good news to read) to just explain the reasons why grey ganking is done I dont know. So now I know.... grey ganking is done... its not nice but thats war plus other reasons - at least it isnt just for the fun of it or just to make someones day worse by spoiling there game.

Now I can go back to my game and be ganked with at least the knowledge that for some of the gankers they arent just doing it out of spite!

So to alot of you out there, try getting of your high level, l337, uber, beta version horses and realise that some of us dont know the full ins and outs of the game and try thinking before you post useless spam in threads - maybe try even helping a few of us!

PS. I'm not going to be ganking greys myself (unless its by accident) - but as its been said... thats upto me - so cya all on the servers and hopefully if I ever lvl enough I may try and get my own back one of these days :D

It's not just about ganking a grey.

It's about a high level only killing greys, camping their spots.
