8800gtx, had it nearly 2years
runs fine for a while, then screen goes all green/purpley, best image i can give is like those 3d pictures when u look at them without glasses
fan is still running ok on it, adn its going at about 60 centigrade

so:

1- any thoughts ? salvagable, repairable, etc ?

2- suggest a replacement. trying for less than 200 quid, but want 700mb+ . sadly not up to date with current cards

oh, and Nvidia 100% :)

ta

/edit
and i tried it in another slot but it told me to fuck off and put it back cos it wasnt SLId

Out of warranty? If it's a BFG it has a lifetime warranty and quite possibly worth making use of that.

Why are you fixated on Nvidia - my understanding is that the current lot aren't quite as good as the current bunch ATI has to offer. You could get a nice 4870 for less than 200.

Well with respect to the ATI thing, I think it's worth considering as general consensus is that they're better now. Allegiances are pointless in this type of thing.

Plus, since you've got BFG you're covered - you may as well sort a replacement. I replaced my 8800GTX not long ago and got an Ultra back :).

Sounds like the cooler has gone or the memory, if it's BFG best waiting on the RMA.

I've always been a Nvidia man. Bought an ASUS 8800GT and had nothing but trouble when running WAR. Found out WAR was the reason for all the faults and all the other NON-Overclocked 8800GT's were fine.

Went back to my ATI card, a few weeks back I updated the drivers and had a whole ton of problems. DId everything correct with regards to cleaning the drivers, running as the admin account etc etc. Got some weird ass long message which showed up all over google. Seems alot of people got this so had to do a system roll back lol.

Anyways with BFG having the lifetime warranty, I think I'll give Nvidia another try at some point :p

Just heard the lifetime warranty only applies to USA. Over here (UK) the 'lifetime guarantee' equates to 10 years. But 10 years is more than enough!

That may be a recent thing, I checked mine and I'm pretty sure it's a full lifetime warranty. That said, you're right - I don't expect to be using this thing in 10 years so that's plenty.
