As you rightly say, gains in 3DMark aren't genuine, more a ploy to discredit FutureMark's benchmarking suite. That said, there are plenty of real-world gains to be had, as well as the improved image quality (though it still, apparently, isn't quite up to ATi's standards just yet).

That is laughable to be honest. nVIDIA get beaten fair and square in a benchmark, so they decide to try and discredit it instead. What I find most amusing about this is the gains in 3dmark2001 are also there, a benchmark they has absolutely no problem with when they were fastest in it. This, coupled with the fact that my TNT2u was an unadulterated piece of shite, gives you some indication of why I'll never touch another nVIDIA product again.
