I see, but I still say, not having access to the game, missing server types, etc. makes daoc europe look bad. No reviews, no help for many fan sites, no news, etc. how do you expect the people at stures know daoc doesn't run out after a month, if you don't help majority of new fan sites? Checked the links section at the new page, and hoped you do your best and search for the better sites on the net. I think the camelot auto besitary site is certainly one of the best sites, yet it is left out. It is good, since you can send info about it to reviewers, etc.

I think you would double the amount of players with advertisement, actually selling the game in each and every european country, selling cards that can be used to pay subscribtion without credit card, helping fansites and linking to them.

Know why Mythic makes new expansions and doesn't call NF just 1.70? because new frontiers means new title, new title can be announced, and you can give it to distributors, if daoc gets a new package has NF client on CD and you send to distributors with a line that says: you can sell it from 16th of november, because that is the time when NF comes out they would sell it. I think there would be need for a nice version that comes on DVD. For new players. Mythic have a 7 day trial, why GOA.COM doesn't have the trial?

Starting a "new" server type (Roleplay, Cooperative, or one of your own variants from the poll) would be a new release as well, and good reason for new box art and claiming the game is all new.

Using stores specializing in RPG products as a backup distribution channel would help. Also if you would have a link where new distributors can join the team.

I think you should go work for them mate, sounds like you could do a much better job than the arses they got there now. Your ideas are all spot on, wonder if they'll take any notice?

Waylander: Behind daoc europe there is no *publisher* but a telecommunications company, this makes things hard, knowing what to do and doing it is different, I know how things go at big national telcos and subsidiaries so I can understand the problems goa has, it doesn't make things better for me, it doesn't make daoc more competitive with other games, yet it makes the problems understandable :)

GOA need to realise that this is fast becomming an issue for players on English servers..The game with its new graphics can compete with the best of them and with catacombs will not look old or outdated at all.

GOA please wake up, launch a marketing campaign in the UK to attract new players..hell I'll even stand in goth and camelot hills passing out 1 gold to all the newbies.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get this game out and damn well advertise it!!

Well, after a brief visit to HMV in Henry St Dublin, i was surprised to see a copy of the original/SI/TOA box with NF add on sticker planted on it. Was the only one i could see, so looks like the copies are getting around alright.

My impression has always been that on 'day1' Mythic struck a deal with various parties for them to distribute the game. Money will have changed hands probably - possibly providing Mythic with upfront funding to get up and running - there will have been contractual conditions on both sides.

We don't know what they are. We don't know what Mythic's responsibilities are. The fact that you can now get something for 17.99 that 6 months ago was 34 implies that overall the game is not moving. It may not be remaindered but its close to it. It's the same inthe US by the way, the game is half-price book stores etc.

To mount an advertising campaign costs money. You also have to have the copies of the game to support the advertising - otherwise people get pretty ****** Print the copies and it doesn't sell : lose money. Print the copies, advertise and it doesn't sell : lose money x 2. Chicken and egg.

No advertising suggests that the return / copy on a single game doesn't justify it. You could easily spenf 100k on a campaign. Even if the distributor made 10 pounds per copy (and at 17.99 that is unlikely) you would need to sell 10,000 copies. 10,000 players hitting the UK servers and - guess what - they wouldn't be able to cope. You need a new server ...

Bottomline you cannot afford an expensive campaign. Local freebies may bethe way to go but - its a mess.

Distribution in Europe - and the UK in particular whicjh is smaller - that I have to conclude that the original contracts that Mythic struck really messed things up. My thoughts anyway.
