I have had a few issues with my car, thats getting sorted now but due to the battery causing a reset of my incar electrics, my CD player has gone up the swannie.

It is giving me a code to enter in to reset the CD player, however when i got the car, i was not given the actual reset code for it. So. Bugger.

Now due to this and security, i cant exactly go into a shop and say "Well... this CD player isnt working - Fix it" because surely if i can do that, those who steal them can do that too no?

Would i have to go to the manufacturer and get charged an arm and leg [if not more] for it, or is there simpler ways around it?

The CD player looks to just be a generic one for Ford Focus'

I feel your pain. I'm in the same position with my Laguna.

You can go to a ford dealer if it's the original stereo and they can get the code usually about £20.

There are online sites that you give them the serial no. off the back of the stereo and they email you a code for about £5.

Or you phone up a ford dealer pretending to be a mechanic and you disconected the battery and you need the code for the stereo. Apparently they do this for free.

I however have not tried any of these yet as i haven't found the time.

I had a similar problem with my ford focus. Had to have the battery disconnected in order to fix an electrical problem, which locked out the stereo. I don't have the code, as it's a 2nd hand car, but after a bit of googling, I found a little exe that allowed you to input a code from the off the side of the stereo and it would give you the 4-digit code to unlock it.

Google something like 'unlock ford focus stereo' and you will get some websites offering to provide you a code for a fee, but you should also find some forums where people may provide the code or give a link to a prog that will let you do it.

Depending on the age of your focus, mine's a hatchback that falls into the 1998-2004 category, if yours is similar, I can send you a copy of the prog that I downloaded.

Check your documentation wallet. It may well be written down on a bit of paper.

If not, the previous owner may have the credit card sized thing that has it stamped on.

Failing that, the original dealer will know.
