I played:

lead guitar for 6 years
bass guitar for 2 years
drums for 18 months
keyboards for 4 years
sax for about 9 months

I grew up son. Having said that, I'm buying a bass again soon as I want to get back to live band performances. Added to that, I compose music electronically using a multitude of 'real' instruments and a plethora of digital equipment such as synths, samplers, modules etc

Big up yoself mista... me been playin brass since 1989, done various grades (aint had lessons tho for like 5 yrs), GCSE moosic (even tho its lame), perfect pitch etc etc. I can write music an'all

Twat. Ever tried DJ'ing? Ever been out clubbing? Thought not.
Turntable is an instrument, one that can be used or played.

There is a difference.

All playing an "instrument" means is moving your fingers/hands in a particular way. The funny thing is, so does DJ'ing.
It might be easier to learn than a conventional instrument but it doesn't detract from the skill involved.
