So gimme your opinions.. I know they aint the best but they're cheap (2nd hand).

SoundLAB DLP3R direct drive decks, like the newest DLP32's but with only +/- 8% pitch control and no gay pitch bend buttons... comes with a basic mixer (which will be upgraded asap), all leads, stanton carts etc: 150 quid :) I thought it was cheap anyway, they'll be with me within the week

Have I got a good deal or wud u all say they're shite? :) Reviews I have found say they're good for the cash.

I am here you bastards. New York is sunny which is strange considering its the arse end of October. I'm told its never sunny in October EVER.

Anyway, TUG me old mucker, not a bad deal actually, I'd go for it meself coz you can upgrade it very easily and its ideal for learning on.

You need lessons on scratching, let me know :)

How are you all anyway??

Nice one. Soundlabs are ok for beginners. Be wary of the 'direct drive' tho. They always pimp that but its never as good as the Technics or vestax of this world. You'll find that you'll be nudging the vinyl round a bit and doing some work getting them in time but its worth it :) :D

OK the big apple is dandy, a little quiet, but fun anyway. However I got me a little problem. It seems that the person I'm staying with has gone from normal person I met on QE2 to psycho monster raving caffeine addled nutcase.

I have a serious blast of "get-the-hell-out-of-here" syndrome, but I'm going to call in a favour so I can stay until the U2 concert at least. Jesus, normal people dont appear to exist in this town.

I'm also writing this in what seems to be the biggest fucking Net cafe I've ever seem. The sign on the door says "It is unlawful and dangerous to have any more than 750 persons in this building."
You get the picture?

Anyway, Soundlab DD are fine for learning on, but dont expect them to last forever and like Chuck said above, they aint got nothing on Technics or Vestax decks, so be advised they may need a little help when it comes to dropping a tune into the mix.

Apart from that you should be fine :)

PS: Ignus, please get you tart face of a sister to email me asap.

I bought a new deck the other day. It was a green element featherlight to replace my old mongoose basic board. The trucks and wheels are still shit though.

I could never go back to belt drives now. I'll stick with my 1200s thanks :) Man, I remember the old days, never again.

Which reminds me TUG, I might be flogging my 1200 MKIIs soon, in favour of the MKIII versions. Interested in a deal? :O)

IMHO expensive belt-drives are better than cheap direct-drives.

PS. Vestax are utter fucking shite. I'd rather disembowel myself with a rusty fork than be made to play on them. I even told one club to fuck off when I turned up and they had a pair sitting there.

Tech 12*0s or bust babeh

lol perp :) them soundlabs in yer average deal would have gone for about 350ish notes with phones, mixer, carts etc etc... if thats a guide on how cheap they are vs belt drives I dunno... I heard belt drives are cunts for holdin the pitch so i thought i'd steer clear :)

As for the technics.. I am in a bit of debt atm hence these cheapies... how much were ya thinkin? I seen a lot on loot.com and they still fetch a v. respectable price so not so sure I could afford 'em ;)

Well, tbh, it won't be for another 6 months till I consider seriously chasing a set of mkIII 1200s, and money really isn't an obstacle, so as long as I know they'd have a good home, I'm sure I can work out a 'mates' price :)

When you've been to Ninja Studios at Clink and seen Coldcut do their shit on 4 vestax, I'm afraid Technics just dont cut the mustard anymore. Wall to wall vinyl and the MKII's in the corner under a pile of cables and boxes..that was possibly one of the best days of my life.

Vestax are, on paper at least, better decks than Technics. However the Technics deck hasn't changed in design since 1975 and therefore has stood the test of time. In my experience, Technics have that annoying center click on the pitch control, although this might be rectified on the Mk3's.

At the end of the day, 99% of clubs have Technics decks in them and that why I got myself a pair of shiny silver SL1200's (+ Intimidation Blue mixer :) ).

New York is getting steadily worse by the day, although I'm about to go to Macy's Shopping thing and take the piss. :D
