I find some of Da Gaffers comments in the other thread slightly humerous and as a paying customer mildly offensive. I think its about time to turn the tables a bit and give off a bit against GAME.

The number of regulars in the General forum since GAME took over has dropped dramatically and no doubt will continue to so. Not because of bannings but because a new landlord came in with a bit of muscle intimidating and threatening because what they saw didnt tow the plc line. Speaking for myself, I only remained here because I enjoyed the banter, with the regulars and to be honest Im looking for another forum to waste some time on.

Since Ive been here I've (and indirectly my children) have been verbally insulted to extreme levels. But hey Im a 35 year old who has seen a bit of the world and if I didnt like it I'd have moved on.
Now its got to the stage where I really dont give a fuck, Ill just speak my mind and if the suits dont like it then fuck them. Im not going to have some faceless GAME employee come into our community and tell me how I should be behaving.

Its the people in this forum who over the years have made this community what it is, and frankly it about the strongest asset that GAMEs online content has got.

For the most part its online prices just arent competitive, and theres nothing that its subscriber service offers that can't be got free elsewhere.

Ill tell you now, and mark my words, the whole subscriber online game content is a complete farce from start to finish. From broken promises to incompetent employees.

Ive paid my subscription almost a year ago (what a waste of money that was) and wont be renewing it. Nor will I buy any games from the company since I get them cheaper elsewhere.

I played tonight

I waited for 45 minutes with at most 5 {kea} chaps.

then I got bored cos 3v3 DoD sucks donkeys balls.

I played DC last night too, with 5 guys, (4 from [DR]), but 3v2 Desert Combat also sucks donkeys balls.

How bout a new plan suit type guys? I know we've gone over this a million times, but it's blatently not working...

And was that a slip by JD there, 300 subscribers perchance?

Sorry, but that's just not gunna happen.

That 300 means nothing in terms of GAME.NET, it was a random figure to make a point.

Grandadwrinkle, I appreciate your concerns, and trust me, we're feeling them too. If you could just stop with the blinkered "them and us" approach for a minute and think, you'd realise we want exactly what you do. Do you think anyone wants GAME.NET to be a success more than GAME? You're preaching to the choir.

Do you really think there will be quality places to play for free for much longer? Running game servers properly is an expensive business, and pay-to-play has always been an inevitability.

Now you might think GAME has spoiled the "free online gaming" party, but someone had to have the balls to jump in first and ride the storm. "Balls" is something that very few companies the size of GAME have and they (and I'm not saying "me" because I don't make the decisions) should be respected for this.

I'm locking this thread now. It's not helpful. If you wish to continue this with myself on PM, or with our Customer Services department feel free to do so, but unsubstantiated random insults and uninformed comments like yours do nothing to move the situation forward.

I'm sorry, but if I had paid 24 quid, I'd expect something in return (other than the webspace etc, which really wouldn't be the reason I spent the money). If the servers are constantly empty, I'm not gunna sit there and wait for something to happen.

You're right, a gsp had to bite the bullet sooner or later, and the first was always going to have problems. The point is, when you get customers who aren't happy with the service they're paying money for, you give a load of half assed excuses and promises "somethings in the bag fellas, just you wait!". It sounds like something a 12 yr old/I'd do. This is why 12 yr olds/myself are not running GSPs.

Add to that the fact that when someone posts a complaint that isn't even remotely abusive, just angry and miffed, you post a reply and close the thread? That's fantastic isn't it, have the last word 'n all. Obviously I realise that you've opened it now, that's good, but the sentiment is still there.

You can feel free to ignore all that I've said, because I'm not a paying subscriber. I have no right to be miffed with you lot, but I think these are valid points, and you should stop taking things so personally, take a step back and keep things at a professional level. Customers are unhappy, fix it, don't get hurt.

i honestly dont give a fuck if you close this general forum completely.
Barrysworld was always about pc games, and the general forum was where pc game type people came to talk about "general" stuff.
it's not like that now. The people with the most strident opinions about everything under the sun are 8 times out of 10 people who dont even play on the BW servers. i cannot understand why Game even bother with the general forum if Im honest. Like Gumbo said, I played on BW tonight, there was 5 or 6 people, and 5 of them from my clan. Or in other words, they probably wouldnt have been there if it wern't for me. fantastic.

Im one of the busiest people for playing and organising games on bw, Im a cs admin and the dod liason, I've played on the SoF2 community nights, and the ones for BF1942, CS,Q3 and ,of course DoD. But they are mostly very poor turnouts to these "events".
Christ we have 2 liasons for cs plus about 6 admins, yet Im just about the only one who turns up.

What does all this lead to ? Ill tell you what I think.

get people on the servers please.

Nothing else matters.

As far as I'm concerned as members of the General forum community we're all perfectly entitled to our opinion on the events of late in here, unfortunately this isn't the case and we're here to be patronised and treated like childs by the suits.

If you really wanted to make lots of cash via game servers then you should start trying to get the licences to run some of the new MMORPG's that are coming out this year / early next year.

Just look at the Dark age of Camelot forum (The most popular one on barrysworld and full of people who are just delighted if the servers are up, you can call them all idiots to their face and they'll still love you).

I'm sure a company such as GAME has the resources to handle this or am I wrong?

here's a point that's never been made before...

wouldn't it be great if there were like NO suits VISIBLE... we just quietly go about our lives, and when we comment on game.net or whatever, then instead of saying "no no we can't do that" or "but we rock really, you just don't realise it" etc, like they always do... stuff changes... or not... but LESS of the fucking excuses. in fact, eliminate the excuses. and the prescence.

Don't take this personally throd, as you know I like you and respect you but frankly if you don't like the forum then why keep reading it and posting in it? You've said it time and time again how shit you think the General forum is and expressed your dislike for various regulars but you still come come here.

Most MMORPGs are run by the publisher for the very reason they turn a good profit, they're unlikely to allow any one else to run them unless under direct control.

The DAoC forum may be the most popular atm but....hmmm well I won't say it because most the general users most probably already know what I'm thinking

The thread is get it off your chest, and thats exactly what Im doing. Im saying, this is a company providing game servers for people to play on, i pay for this, and I really want to use the servers, but theres no one on them.
Im saying that is the only important thing. Ted's leaving say one thing to me, in the next few months things will change one way or the other, either poeple on the servers , or demise.
And they can deny it all they like.

Ive PMd a brief response to the two suits, both of whom are finding it difficult to separate work from their own private lives in my opinion. I return to find the thread reopened along with Pandoras box. This was exactly my intention and totaly respect the fact that they've reopened the thread for what I hope will be some decent discussion.

I for one have nothing else to discuss.

I agree servers should be the priority, but dammit I like this forum and most of the people.

I see BarrysWorld and GAME.net as two different entities, frankly. And I really dislike one of them.

Why not relaunch, 2 months of free BarrysWorld branded servers with messages saying all this for only 12 quid 23 days to go, type thing.
