GeForce OpenGL Probs

Currently I'm playing CStrike using Direct3D video mode. I want to change this to OpenGL, but can't. If I choose the OpenGL mode, the program crashes when trying to start a game. I don't get a chance to see any error messages, as it's a complete system lock-up. I've looked through the GeForce faq for answers to this, but no joy yet. Anyone else had this?

PIII 600E
BE6-II
256MB RAM
GeForce 256 DDR
Windows ME

Problem also occured under Win98/98SE

Blaster Control gave me the following version numbers. They are so different to yours though, I'm wondering if I'm looking in the right place!

opengl32.dll Version 4.00
glu32.dll Version 4.00
nvopengl.dll Version 4.12.01.0634

Maybe its time to detonate windows ME

Hmm my m8 used to get the same problems. He managed to play under OpenGL by using the detonator 3 reference drivers, not the card speific ones from the manufacturer. However he still experienced crashes and found tyhe only way to stop them was to downgrade to windows 98 :)

It's very weird.

The problem was there when I had Win98 too, so I think it's probably not that (unless I now have 2 problems!).

Funny thing is, I can play Q3 (not that I do much anymore), without any problems, this is with OpenGL chosen.

Guess I'll be sticking to Direct3D then :)

I used to have this problem, a total reformat and upgrade to the new detonators fixed it.

Right, got this one taped!

I figured that if Q3 worked ok, then the problem must be HL/CS specific.

My HL install is from one of my many backup CDs so I did a search through all of my HL subdirectories for old opengl files... and I found 2 of the buggers. Dunno how I missed them before. Deleted them, and everything runs as it should do.

Counterstrike looks a lot nicer too! Even saw a little box saying "Hostage rescue zone".

Sorted!

Thanks for the replies peeps
