It´s weird. On one hand, the Netherlands are one of the most progressive, liberal and coolest countries in the EU, on the other hand, there´s always a tendency for those right wing muppets. *sigh*
I still love being in NL. Sue me. :)

Tendency? Gimme an example of such a right wing party in the Netherlands of the last 60 years.

I suppose you could mention Pim Fortuyn with his LPF.

Anyways the Dutch democratic system works "a bit" differently then "just" conservatives and progressives. It is something of the last 9 years, Ill give you that. But thats not just in the Netherlands and there's a reason for it aswell.

To give you an example; our big right whinged party, the VVD, would be considered left in the US or England.

Actually.. yes idd, I was thinking about Pim Fortuyn. A couple of years ago. I used to have dutch co-workers, all of them cool and nice guys, who used to support him and made me go "WTF?!" :)

It has nothing to do with NL or any other country. I just think that this kind of thinking should be have been gone looong time ago.

Well see it this way. In the 60' and years l8r the Netherlands "imported" a lot of cheap labor forces from Marocco and Turkey (aswell as other countries). They stayed and are now in their 2nd or 3rd generation. Living together caused them to keep their culture, which has its pro's and con's.
Anyways, there is a small part of Maroccan childeren (and adults) that are causing a lot of trouble in the big cities atm (and yes i'm certain there are Dutch childeren causing trouble aswell).
This spurred a lot of hatred to the Maroccan community as a whole. 9/11 and the recent events arent helping either. I have lived in Amsterdam for over 7 years and I will conform that the stigma holds grounds. But one shouldnt generalize ever.

You see this in other parts of Europe aswell. Belgium and France for example.

Well this comment adds absolutely nothing to the discussion does it, unless perhaps you are trying to say the Dutch are inherently racist?

Ive been sayin this since the crysis begun: watch out in every country for extrem right parties.

They are going to have a lot of support in troubled times. Geert, Pia Kjærsgaard, LePen, Berlusconi (hint hint), Nick Griffin... expect to hear more from them in the next years.

Nazism or civil war in Europe in 30-40 years. My bet is on France.

All I can say.....
I'm sorry for my fellow countrymen who did vote for him (for the majority Limburgers, a southern pronince, it seems). I tried my best, casting three votes (2 for my folks) for a progressive left party (pvda, d66, gr. links) but apparently to no avail...
